It's likely for pre-research; it would be 10-20 years away if they ever materialize into any product at all.
in 2017, AVIC heavy duty transport department president said, we will build large heavy transport aircraft like C-5 and AN-124. this project under consideration since 2010. back then, they didn't have engine.

if this research ever materialize it wont take 15-20 years. China have now complete infrastructure to design/produce this type of aircraft.

Why though? America needs C5 size planes to maintain their overseas forces/colonies while the USSR needed to traverse their massive east west distance

Y20 seems like more than enough for operations in China and it feels like it'll be better to build more Y20s than a new project

China doesn't really have the same need to support places that far away. Maybe East Africa or South America? But that'll require some pretty crazy amounts of in flight refuelling

Y-20 + cargo version of C(R?)-929 would be sufficient. One has space and the other economy.

Late variant C-5 share engines with civilian airliners. Developing a 25 tf WS-20 for Chinese C-5 when your airliners are expected to use CJ-2000 seems wasteful. You can't make a twin 25 tf engine Y-20 either as it would be underpowered.
