Chinese astronauts Fei Junlong, Deng Qingming and Zhang Lu have been selected to carry out the Shenzhou-15 space mission, the China Manned Space Agency said at a press conference on Monday. The Shenzhou-15 crewed spaceship will be launched on Tuesday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
Good thing Deng Qingming finally got the chance to fly.
56 year old making his first trip to space. Unlikely he will ever go on another mission after Shenzhou-15. Would it be better to send someone younger?

It would have been better to fly with a younger crew member in terms of a force generation context. But rewarding loyalty and giving him experience to be better able to support younger taikonauts mitigates this a little too.
Looks like two first to space crewmembers with Zhang Lu too. Still waiting for the first payload specialist, and foreign taikonaut to be named.
Is this a bit aggressive, 2 people on this trip have never flown yet this is a 180 day mission. Although it is helped by the fact the first 10 days of the mission are handover days so they can adjust.
I was hoping one person from shenzhou 15 would swap seats with shenzhou 14 so that china could do a long-term habitation study on a taikonaut on a 350 day (180+170) mission cycle.
This is just 3rd 6 months crew, still too early for 1 year long stay for taikonaut. They need to collect more experience, data for both long stay in space and post flight recovery. Several more rotations needed before extended stay in space.
