I wonder what kind of bandwidth they will be looking at with a huge constellation in place. Currently limited to calls and SMS with a noticeable delay, it'll only be really useful in emergency situations.
big news, Mate X6 will be the first phone to support the new LEO constellation, expecting to be ready by second half of next year.
This assumes that SpaceSail project goes pretty smoothly from now until then.

Huawei could sell phone cases with foldable antenna to really make it a practical replacement for satellite phones.
The use case have always been fairy niche, as 99% of people will rarely venture outside of 5G tower broadcast range.
so we are still at the beginning stages right now. The first phase by 2027 (by 2025 for China & surrounding regions) is just to have continuous network where you can probably low level of data. Not everyone will necessarily be connected to it at all time.
I think we are only expected to go to 6G with full satellite to phone data coverage once they have 13000 satellites in the space.
go on cruise ship, be on a flight, travel to Southeast Asia or elsewhere globally. Once you get enough satellites in the air and control them, you can just sell the phones in other countries. Many countries are barely just building out 5G now. You put satellites in there and they instantaneously get faster and more wide spread coverage. The use case have always been fairy niche, as 99% of people will rarely venture outside of 5G tower broadcast range.
Even now providers probably charge an arm and a leg for any data consumed through the satellite network.
We'll unlikely to see prices come down for consumers a large part of the constellation is up and running. It is a pretty big gamble for Huawei to invest substantially in this technology, at least it also have large military utility in that it'll cabbagize ground to satellite comms to the point that it can be given to every soldier at low price.
The barrier to that will be domestic carriers wanting a piece of the pie, like how starlink is banned in China. But I do see how it could be very popular in developing countries which can't afford the infrastructure in the first place, the prices for satellite communication capable phone just need to come down to an affordable rate.go on cruise ship, be on a flight, travel to Southeast Asia or elsewhere globally.
