China's Space Program Thread II

I personally want YF-135 to be the one chosen for eventual CZ-9, but I think 240t is more like a sibling than a child to YF-130. I hope you are aware that I have said that it is possible that 240t is a parallel program to YF-130 and YF-135. If so 240t is not a split of YF-130 like RD-180 to RD-171. It is a big possibility, but I could be wrong too.
No one ever heard of such 240t before Long's presentation though and don't make sense if you have a two-chamber 500t and one-chamber 240t in parallel development.

ThrustIsp
YF-130H (Half)2,400kN308s
YF-100K1,250kN302s

There is no real motivation to specifically develop a YF-130H to meet a demand which doesn't exist. CASC can put 7 x YF-100N in their 5m diameter first stage with a 7.6m shroud to meet payload demand and being reusable. It is just like one doesn't buy iPhone 14 if one knows Apple will switch to Type-C one year later.

The YF-130 has been variously listed as 480t or 500t.

A 240t variant would perfectly fill the bill for CZ-9

I would argue the demand certainly exists for a reusable 150t LEO superheavy..

I will name some demands here but I don't think China needs them in a strict timetable before YF-135.

A space station in GEO orbit, patent has been filed by big names as inventors.

A moon base.

Super heavy space-based electricity grid.

Mission to the Mars.

YF-100N will be enough for LEO. Tbh I have seen a potential for YF-100 to become a legendary series like H-6.

This 240t engine has a equally long history of rumor as YF-135 many years ago before 9ispace.cn was shutdown. Some members here were regular visitors of that website including myself, and I learnt it from there.

and don't make sense if you have a two-chamber 500t and one-chamber 240t in parallel development.
But does it make any sense to have a one-chamber 360t YF-135 in parallel?

BTW YF-130 is 480t in spec (100% thrust at sea level), usually engines will be running at 110% at some time, so maximum 528t. The 500t is just a general name for the class, same as YF-100 is at 120t but always called 100t class. So there is no special difference between 240t and YF-135 other than the former using the same combustion chamber of YF-130.

This kind of parallel development is very usual in the past decade or more, my own company would develop a baseline product for world market and there will be parallel teams in smaller sizes working on market adaptations for markets large enough for special attentions. Those parallel teams are closely connected to the main team, they only work on the differences and their product releases are almost at the same time as the main team.

My view is that the sooner they can get a reusable VTVL first stage flying and start refining and debugging the better. YF-100 and CZ-5G is okay, but it is still half the equivalent payload..

If your view towards the idea of a single chamber YF-130 is because they can wait longer for a better engine like YF-135, well my question is "how much longer".
If it's more than a couple of years, then I think it is better to go for a single chamber YF-130.
