Some small titbit about using the song "America the Beautiful" for the CGI clip describing the Tiangong 1 mission. I don't really have an opinion on the matter, but I thought I would post it here, since the reactions of my fellow forumites here is always interesting.

Yeah, and if China played something 'glorifying' China, the western media would have found something wrong about that too. They played a piece of music, big frigging deal, the western media want some more vinegar with those sour grapes of theirs? :rolleyes:

More like the West sees itself as too important and have to connect itself to everything happening in China.

It's a mistake. CCTV has a long and storied history of using inappropriate clips and sound bytes. CCTV is very unprofessional.

To name a few:

Play the theme music of "The Rock" when showing PLA tactical moves (that's a lot!);

Play the motion pictures of "C&C: General" when showing ICBMs can be concealed;

Play F-16 when have a caption "F-14" on even the supposed be "professional" CCTV7...

I am amazed people here at SDF would be so unfamiliar with CCTV's professioncy and being toyed by some sterotype newsmakers of some "same professioncy" western news agencys.

And what about the "Top Gun" clip when showing J-10 shooting down a drone?

Re: Chinese Satellites

China launched a Euro sat. The US has been trying for years to slow China's space industry by banning US sats to be launched by China.
However, they can't do much with sats built by Europe and China has been breaking into the both the comm sats and launch business as well with the latest deal with Belarus.

China will build and launch a communications satellite for Belarus, according to a contract signed between the two countries on Sunday in Minsk. It is the seventh in-orbit delivery contract that China has signed, but the first with a European client, China Great Wall Industry Corp., a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, said on Monday. "The contract with Belarus marks China's expansion of satellite in-orbit delivery service to the European market," said Yin Liming, president of China Great Wall Industry Corp, the only one in China authorized to conduct commercial launches for international customers.

The communications satellite will use the Dongfanghong-4 satellite platform and has a designed lifespan of 15 years, according to the contract. It will be launched atop a Long March 3-B rocket carrier at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Southwest China's Sichuan province two and a half years after the contract takes effect. China will also build a ground station in Minsk for Belarus to monitor and control the satellite, and provide related training to Belarusian technicians. ..............................................
