Peso-denominated debt has shown the highest sensitivity and the most consistent reaction to crude spikes in recent years, according to a Bloomberg analysis of five events since 2022. The study examined the degree to which bond yields moved outside a normal trading range in these episodes, which include the ongoing Iran conflict and the war in Ukraine.
Yields on five-year peso bonds have jumped by an average 25 basis points during the events, the analysis showed. On March 16, 2026, local time, the first ministerial meeting of the China-Vietnam “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism on foreign affairs, defense, and public security was held in Hanoi. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong, and Defense Minister Dong Jun jointly chaired the meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang, and Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang.
Defense Minister Dong Jun said that, in the face of unprecedented external security risks and challenges, the Chinese and Vietnamese militaries, as armed forces under the absolute leadership of the Communist Party, bear a major responsibility for consolidating the Party’s long-term hold on power and defending the socialist state. Under the guidance of the top leaders of the two parties, the two sides must work together to build a stronger defense and security barrier.
China is willing to work with Vietnam to continue strengthening mutual trust in military security, further expand areas of cooperation, and improve the quality and effectiveness of that cooperation. Through positive interaction, the two sides can jointly safeguard maritime security and stability, elevate exchanges and cooperation in national defense to a new level, and set an example of unity, self-reliance, and strength among the armed forces of socialist countries.
