Marcos to outgoing Chinese envoy: We will miss you
MANILA, Philippines — While Manila and Beijing relations grew tepid over the past few years, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. still warmly welcomed outgoing Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian in a farewell courtesy call in Malacañang on Thursday and thanked him for his six years of service in strengthening bilateral ties.

“It’s unfortunate we didn’t make much more progress on the difficulties that we have in the South China Sea, West Philippine Sea,” the president told Huang.
“But I think, considering how difficult the situation was, that we have managed to keep things at least away from too much problem,” he added.
“We will miss you,” Marcos said to the envoy. “I think you have made a very good second home already here in Manila.”
In a news release of the Presidential Communications Office, Marcos said the two countries should “not allow these differences to define our relationship,” stressing that the West Philippine Sea issue was not the sum total of the country’s relations with Beijing.

(Ofc the PH media connected it to Duterte in the article, i didnt post that part)

PH watching China's actions on South China Sea nature reserve — Brawner
Published October 03, 2025 03:13 PM
The Philippines is closely watching China's actions after Beijing said it would establish a nature reserve at the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea, Philippines' Armed Forces chief General Romeo Brawner said on Friday.

Manila has called China's plans for a reserve at the shoal a "clear pretext for occupation," and Brawner said it was important that there was not a repeat of what had happened at Mischief Reef, also called Panganiban Reef by the Philippines.
The Philippines claims Mischief Reef, which is within its Exclusive Economic Zone in the South China Sea, but China occupied in the 1990s and has since built a military base on it.

Last month, China announced it had approved the creation of a national nature reserve at Scarborough Shoal, saying it was an "important guarantee" to preserve the atoll's ecosystem.

The Philippines also refers to Scarborough Shoal as Panatag Shoal or Bajo de Masinloc. — Reuters with RSJ GMA Integrated News
