China's SCS Strategy Thread

I will write once again. The entire SCS situation is embarrassing for China. And it is only continuing because the Chinese govt is playing the game according to adversary rules. Whoever ordered that DDG to play bumper to bumper should be sacked too.
I agree, serves them right for playing this stupid cat and mouse game, instead of doing what other navies or coast guards would do, hopefully this humiliation will bring some changes.

Hull maybe. But how do you know the impact didn't affect subsystems, propulsion and weapon systems. Warships are pretty complex and high tech nowadays

They will have to revalidate all subsystems to ensure that everything works as it should with no performance degradation. And if something isn't working as it should (debugging and repairing time I guess). Could be a lengthy period
For comparison, an American destroyer that collided with a tanker only required a year of dry dock time at an American shipyard.

PR disaster lol

Not worth the damage to the destroyer for these stupid soft power games. SCS situation is ridiculous

Military should push for more hard power. Power up your AESA power and fully blast these Philippine's ships until their electronics get fried and the crew are forced to surrender if they don't want to suffer health damage

Good opportunity to slice that salami
Do you think CN will start "enforcing" their "new law" about arrests in sea?

Also, if ever PH and CN ship collide, how long will each need to repair? I remember mews before of collision between CN and PH CGs..

I think your hunch is correct, but usually there is a military ship in the vicinity to deter other naval vessels. This opens up the possibility that Filipino crew brought their ship close to the destroyer knowing they won't get shot at.

Well it's not a hunch so much as it's modus operandi that naval ships generally don't get involved in direct action where collisions are likely/standard. If anything they stay quite well far away.

I find it difficult to entertain the idea of seeking to provoke a naval vessel to enter the fray, especially when DDG164 itself was fairly actively maneuvering in the scenes in the video which should have had multiple chances to disengage or not enter the ruckus even if it was enticed.

I will be fascinated to hear from the grapevine what occurred on the PLAN end. I for one, certainly am not going to rule out the possibility of a CO being gung-ho.

I don't think China wants to push Philippines too much as there is also the political dimension of wanting Duterte family to come in power in the next elections

The SCS game has multiple dimensions of military, political, economical, diplomatic domains
For China, it's important to not be too hot-headed at this point in time. This serves as a important lesson for the PLAN and the Coast Guard. We should be able to learn from this mistake and accept it with humility unlike the Indians when their Rafales got destroyed.

Here's the moment of impact. Video was taken from the perspective of the Philippine Coast Guard ship that was being chased off and caused the accident between the Chinese coast guard and PLAN destroyer.

In the audio, a crew member of the PCG ship is clearly heard saying that the the PLAN destroyer was scared of the PCG saying "TAKUT YAN, TAKUT" and then you can hear some snickering the audio from some of the crew members.
