The ruling class of the Philippines were put in place by the Americans during the colonial period and subsequently maintained by the so-called "independent" republic.
Bro the correct word is "maintain and coopt" from the Spaniard, most of those ruling class are the Spanish Peninsulares and Insulares (Ayalas) plus the Mestizos (cojuangco, lopez and etc) The American are excellent colonizer, they become masters after learning the tricks from the British. The first thing they do is to destroy the native identity by introducing ENGLISH as the official language creating a chasm for divide and conquer strategy. Then they educated the masses to create an administrative institution to rule on their behalf.

I stand corrected. But yeah, for our foreign policy to radically change; we need to eliminate America's influence not only in the government but also in culture.

This article is stupid. China is doing its best offering trade. Now they want China to start a socialist revolution for them too?
China used to fund the local Communist party here until Deng AFAIK. Since then they've resorted to calling China revisionist and imperialist.

Bro we are reaching that point and it all boils down to economics, as the article stated we can't have change unless we destroy the Oligarchy, the true enemy of this nation and traitors masquerading as Nationalist (example MVP, the Aquinos ) thus the Oligarch see the writing on the wall as they buckle down with America help because their interest very much aligned. Both of them can pick and choose the who's who among the political actors and elites to fund to maintain the status quo. For them Duterte victory is an aberration and should not be repeated BUT the seed had been sowed as evident that you and I had been empowered and educated, our tribe are increasing and we have a future heroine (Sarah Duterte) in the wings in case Marcos doesn't deliver.

The only solution is to open up the economy and abolish the 60/40 rule that benefit the ruling elite and the oligarchs. We need to level the playing field for everyone to participate and enlarge the pie for everybody to partake.

Funny coming from such useless, corrupt, money grabbing f...rds..Why don't they chastise their hero who's too busy living in the jungle of cosmopolitan Netherlands.

What's funny to me is that there are so many ignoramus Pinoys who think that their skeleton military can somehow go toe to toe with the PLA and that they're a much more competent force than their Chinese counterparts.

Last time I checked, Chinese people fought and liberated themselves from the yoke of western imperialists that includes fighting against then Imperial Japan. Whereas the Philippines was simply passed on from a former colonizer and founder Spain, to their new colonizer, the Americans. Yet, Filipinos are beyond blind to acknowledge their reality that they never beat or repelled their prior masters of old. They want to thank America for saving them against the Japanese when Japan had to invade the Philippines since it was an American strategic outpost and a colony of the U.S. at that time being presided by the likes of William Howard Thaft and the legendary blowhard Douglas MacArthur.

They won't because they are also champagne socialists.

I don't think anyone would think that the AFP; who can't even deal with the Maoists, fight toe to toe with the PLA. It's more that they've gone completely bonkers with their Sinophobia fed by the Dilawans and the Americans that they're willing to go on a suicide mission. These are the kinds of people who would panic whenever they see Chinese characters in a public setting.

The First Republic defeated the Spanish before the Americans landed in Manila. Filipino guerillas in WW2 already controlled half of the archipelago before overrated MacArthur came back. So it's not exactly that we haven't tried. It's more that the idea of the Philippines as a country is still young and vulnerable which needs time to solidify, we're not like the Chinese with thousands of years of a unified identity. Unfortunately the Americans came in and created a schizophrenic cultural identity on top of the shitty Spanish legacy which created fiefdoms controlled by mestizo oligarchs and hacienderos who betrayed the country in order to get on the good side of the Americans.

Anyone familiar with Malaysian politics can comment on what their foreign policy would be like after the recent general election? Looks like Anwar Ibrahim will be the new leader.
This today's news article should answer your question.

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim “touched all the right bases” in outlining Malaysia’s foreign policy direction at his maiden press conference, says an analyst at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies.

It was noteworthy that Anwar spoke on the importance of China, an “important neighbour” with whom Malaysia had to strengthen relations, said Thomas Benjamin Daniel.

However, an international relations expert from Universiti Malaya, Collins Chong, said Anwar needed to be assiduous in managing bilateral ties with China. He also said it was clear that Anwar was aware of China’s importance, especially in economic and security matters.

Daniel noted that Anwar had also said it was ‘equally important’ to enhance ties with other key partners including the United States, Europe, India and Asean. However, he said foreign policy nuances might emerge in due time.

Chong said “millions of lives and livelihoods” would be affected if the approach and scope of Malaysia’s relationship with China was not handled well.

He similarly said Anwar would do well to build on existing ties with other international superpowers as well as neighbours.

“(Of course) he (Anwar) will expand the process of diversifying our economic dependence and trade relations with other major economic players in Asean, India and the US.”

Anwar had described ties with China as “pivotal”.

“China is an important neighbour. Of course it’s a priority to enhance bilateral, trade, investment and cultural relations with China,” said Anwar. “I would not just leave (ties with China) as it is. (They) need to be enhanced.”

However, Anwar said building on relations with the US, Europe, India and Asean was equally crucial.

Bro you known who's the majority victim in the massacre that prelude the liberation of Manila, the Chinese? why because most of them form the core of resistance against the Japanese. My father witness the burning of a whole neighborhood block pack with people in Blumentritt St Manila. He told me that he was fortunate that some Filipinos help him and his father escape and he is grateful, so he instilled it to me to show appreciation to my adopted country and contribute as payback for the generosity it provide.

"The Americans who have penetrated into Manila have about 1000 troops, and there are several thousand Filipino soldiers under the Commonwealth Army and the organized guerrillas. Even women and children have become guerrillas. All people on the battlefield with the exception of Japanese military personnel, Japanese civilians, and special construction units will be put to death."

Before the battle, deciding that he would be unable to defend Manila with the forces available to him, and to preserve as large a force as possible in the rural mountain Luzon region of the Philippines, General Tomoyuki Yamashita had insisted on a complete withdrawal of Japanese troops from Manila in January 1945. However, Yamashita's order was ignored by about 10,000

advanced into the city of Manila in order to drive the Japanese out. During lulls in the battle for control of the city, Japanese troops took their anger and frustration out on the civilians in the city.
