Hi PhSt,I don't think there is any comparison between these two leaders. Duterte didn't intervene or got the Philippines involved in affairs outside his country's borders, Turkey meanwhile has directly intervened in places like Syria, Libya, and Azerbaijan.
The Philippines, like Indonesia and Malaysia, have a significant number of Chinese minorities, however, it looks like Chinese Filipinos are still largely marginalized in the country. I am wondering why there are no efforts until now by the Chinese minority to make their voices heard and advance their welfare and interests in the country. Every now and then when tensions flare up between the PH and China (most of the time as a result of exaggeration by Western controlled media of incidents in the SCS), Chinese Filipinos are targeted and are often victims of racial slurs, discrimination, and many forms of degradation. I think this kind of occurrence needs to be put to an end and the only way to do this is for Chinese Filipinos to form a kind of solidarity organization that will pursue to preserve their unique identity and at the same time campaign to change the hostile perception towards Chinese people. Chinese Filipinos will also have to be involved in politics to ensure that their interests are well represented in the country's political sphere.
Discrimination is a FOREIGN IMPORT, since ancient times we trade, intermarriage and give each other respect, in other words we coexist. When the foreigners arrive they use the Yellow Peril threat as a justification to expand their rule, the locals go along with it believing that being a second class citizen in it's own country is better than an "INTSIK" a Filipino derogatory word for 'chink' . That's the reason for the establishment of the First Chinatown in the world. A ghetto for us Chinese to live within a cannon shot away, just in case they will foment a revolution and it occur many times. Most of our national hero had Chinese lineage, Jose Rizal is a Chinoy (Chinese mestizo) and even the peasant hero Andres Bonifacio. So I don't blame my fellow Filipino of Racism ,their action is a product of their time. We had coexisted and learned to respect each other. And by the way the reason for Filipino Chinese success (The Taipan) is that the discriminatory policy enacted (Chinese can't owned land) forces us to be more innovative and focus more on retail and manufacturing. That's how we dominate the business environment here.

Well I had experience some form of discrimination but I'm lucky enough to have somebody there to guide me(my father), I had learned early on not to let HATE consume my life. It makes me a better person. And there is a life changing event happening in my country for the past 25years, As more Filipino go overseas to work, they also experience a worst kind of discrimination (rape, slavery ), It give them some perspective and a realization of their past action. As China grew more prominent they learned to appreciate the Chinese role in Filipino culture, as most of our food delicacies had been influence by the Chinese. And many had appreciated their Chinese lineage and not embarrass to show it anymore. I think more than 75% of Filipino in one form or another had Chinese blood in them.
