Nukes cost money to make and maintain. A lot of money.

So how many nukes would be enough in your opinion? Both the US and Russia have enough nuclear weapons to wipe out the planent many times over. Why does China need to match those numbers?

Furthermore, despite its massive nuclear arsenal, Russia is currently under crippling sanctions. It's economic lifeline, oil, can be wrecked at will by the US. Its overseas interests are under siege, and it has been forced to expend lives and material just to keep their assets from getting wiped out.

Compare this to China, who is expanding its control over the SCS, and the only thing the Americans can do is sail ship in international waters.

that's because Russia can't even make shoes and clothes, and grow food. The simple stuffs.
learn what's Russia's strength n avoid its weakness to boost oneself.

So a strong economy >>>> nukes.

QED.
BS, Qing Dynasty China had the biggest share of GDP in the world. It didn't have arms and invited slaughter from butrchermen.

On top of that, certain countries now worked real real hard to prevent China from being the strongest economy.

Economic Sabotage is part of the game plan.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

You need to learn your history better.

The Qing dynasty collapsed because of corruption, corruption that took root in the Qianlong years. That corruption severely debilitated Qing's military effectiveness. The banner army became a place for nobles to park their spoiled brats. The coastal forts were neglected and falling apart, allowing the Brits to strike with impunity during the Opium Wars.

Western textile manufacturing devastated local artisans. The empire was on the verge of bankruptcy during Cixi's reign. The eight-nations were able to pillage Beijing and the Summer Palace because the Manchu banner army had the combat effectiveness of a group of spoiled noble brats. That directly led to Cixi turning to warlords like Yuan Shikai, who commanded a far more effective army, and in the process sealing the fate of the Qing dynasty.

I recommend watching the series "走向共和". You'll learn quite a bit.

so, the corruption took roots in a strong economy, where the chance of war is so low that military service serves as sinecure for spoiled brats of the elites?
Sounds like China today alright.
Still, a lot of nukes would help. As long as you have the big red button wired to a couple of thousand nukes, it doesnt matter how corrupt and inept your elites and society is at large. If the Qing had nukes, there wouldnt have been a century of humiliation today, even if they were hundred.times more corrupt. Peace through power.

Which is why stamping out corruption is top priority for China's current administration.

As for nukes, why would more help? China already has enough nukes to devastate every major city in the US. Why is that not deterrence enough? What benefit is gained by stockpiling enough nukes to destroy the world?

As for the Qing having nukes, it is a self-defeating thought experiment.

Nuclear weapons are effective because they are currently the most destructive weapons known to mankind.

The Qing collapsed because it had fallen behind in science and technology. Its economy, while nominally prosperous, was based on agriculture and was largely stagnant. Even if a time traveler were to dump a functioning nuke in Cixi's backyard, nobody would have known how to operate it. Even if the time traveler offered to teach Qing scholars how to use it, no one would have wanted to learn. Even if some did decide to learn, Cixi would have feared that they would use it to threaten her power, and would have had those scholars beheaded. Even if Cixi trusted the weapon and knew how to use it, she would probably have used it on a peasant rebellion.

So instead of looking at such a pointless hypothetical scenario, why don't we look at something that actually happened?

At one point the Qing had the most powerful navy in the East Pacific. Guess what happened?
