What does that idiot "knows" about actual Chinese history, when all of his so-called historical knowledge are entirely lifted from the Japanese and Korean School of Real Chinese History. Lol

That poster was Singaporean. What do you expect?

Also y'all believe me now when I said that a good chunk of the population here is mentally colonized? They worship the western rule based order even if the hate america. The only thing most of them know of Taiwan/china are annoying tourists, boba tee and scenic vacation spots.

You should come back the next time china water cannons another pinoy coast guard ship and breaks windows. That way we'd see a lot of you around and call you out on more hypocrisy.
His WESTERN TALKING POINTS would be: China under the guise of peaceful rise is actually a MAD BULLY that must be stop at all cost lest countries as pretty and innocent like the Philippines become another territory for the expansionist See See Pee. Mark my words, if the See See Pee's aggression isn't stop now we'll all pay with someone else's bloodshed because I will say bye bye to Singapore and say hello to my daddy America!!

This is exactly the worst situation, especially everyone believes that 'China is unlikely to take military action'. So, this victory undoubtedly inspires them that 'continuing to fight can drag down the enemy'.
If the counterattack is still a bluff (unable to cause humiliating losses to the other party), then we can foresee that many countries will adopt the same(may be more) tough attitude.

China’s reaction will come. It will be calculated to use this incident to gain a further strategic advantage just like after Pelosi stunt allowed PLA to normalise exercises near Taiwan. China always uses crises/incidents to shape the chessboard in its favour. We can’t say China didn’t do anything after Pelosi stunt. We can’t say China didn’t do anything after Trump tariffs. China was one of the only countries to hit back hard against the US tariffs including rare earth and other critical mineral restrictions. Chinese leadership knows how to play the game.

Not to go OT, but there are Han nationalists? What do they want?
Look up the Imperial Han 皇汉 folks. It is still a marginalised radical movement only somewhat more influential than those calling for Shanghai independence, but it is growing.

The more common Han nationalists are more subtle, less militant, and are generally part of both PRC patriots and ironically overseas dissidents. In fact, most PRC patriots have some levels of subtle Han nationalism. Han nationalists’ shared characters include:

1. opposition to Hu Yaobang’s 量少一宽 ethnic minority privilege policy (which lasted until Xi came to power),
2. opposition to affirmative actions for minorities,
3. putting the interests of the imagined Han Chinese national community/gemeinschaft above the CPC,
4. believes CPC should serve and prioritise Han people’s interests,
5. opposition to feminism, especially anti-birth feminism and Chinese women worshipping/marrying foreign men
6. Believing that education system should teach traditional Confucian values and the glories of China’s imperial past
7. Believing that ethnic minorities should assimilate to the majority Han culture
8. Believing in zero-sum structural realism of international politics, especially in terms of racial, ethnic, and cultural wars
9. Praises the CPC regarding national achievements (nukes, military power, economic growth, tech advancement) but criticises it due to the Party’s German/Marxist and Soviet/Leninist roots

Many overseas anti-CPC dissidents are also Han nationalists due to their support for the KMT’s legacies, opposition to Marxist-Leninism-Maoism, and believes that the CPC is a running dog of the Russians; thus, illegitimate.

AND apology for being off topic here. Maybe whoever here has a political science degree should start a thread on various Chinese historical and contemporary national identities.

Disagree. This is not a "similar mistake". This pales in comparison to those numerous US mistakes.

We are talking about a high speed chase where different ships try to ram and catch the other. That's high stakes. China already has warships across the entire SCS. Something was bound to happen, especially since this has been going on for 10 years.

I couldn't care less what Taiwan and JDSF thinks about the PLAN competency. Joining or not joining the war will be determined by the US. They can underestimate the PLAN at their own peril.

I'm dismayed at the Chinese peoples reaction, if this event really makes them lose hope so quickly. Again need to have thick skin and change their mentality if china truly becomes strong. Loses are part of that strategy.

Otherwise, if there is a war over Taiwan, and PLAN has more losses, how would the citizens cope? Would they try to overthrow the govt at the first signs of loss?
Look, the majority of the folks here maybe of Chinese stock (some are in China) while others like myself are located in Western countries for host of other reasons. Which means that the vast majority of people here have never truly experienced the horrors of war and wanton destruction! I personally have seen death and loss of lives - a family member was an actual member of the Philippine Army and was stationed at a place where the Islamic movement was it's most potent.

While many here are intimately familiar with the tragedy that is rife in Chinese history none have experienced the loss and experienced grief from losing friends, loved ones and important people from the greatest stupidity known to man; war. Our desired quench for vengeance are obviously coming from historical trauma and deep insecurity of wanting for the motherland to be seen, NO FEARED for what it is now, which is a very strong country with a very capable and modernized military!

However, the advent and rise of social media amplifying our dopamine quick fix are exacerbating the current geopolitical conundrum for any government regardless of political ideology to act.

Countries like India, Japan, the Philippines, heck, even the U.S. ought to be counting their lucky stars that China isn't under a western style democratic system for if the recent accident had occurred under that very system, a great political upheaval would have been unleashed due to the people calling for blood to exact payment especially against a country that's below China's level!!

This shows that sticks work, carrots don't. China going out of it's way to hide this and not escalate further reinforces Philippines' delusions

And even in this example, this person was in that position during Duterte's administration, which was considered more China-friendly. You can only imagine what their population and elites think of China right now
First of all TEDDY LOCSIN JR. is one if not the biggest WESTERN BOOT LICKER that served as that country's Foreign Affairs Secretary!! The man disparaged its own official dialect (Tagalog) in favour of his master's language: ENGLISH.

So, LOCSIN JR. isn't a true Duterte fan and besides Duterte had to select people whom he assumed he could work with despite core ideological differences in matters of domestic and foreign policy since the Philippines isn't exactly brimming with diverse set of experts that aren't already bought and paid for by U.S. interest! Not to mention that most Filipinos are historically ILLITERATE and ignorant of their neighbors history and even their own history is rife with U.S. led propaganda

Guys ... let's keep it simple: This is a thread on "China's SCS Strategy" and not about politics, country-bashing to the one or other side and in mind that within the last days too many political & provocative posts had to be deleted I'm currently considering to either close this thread or - IMO the better option - to immediately sent anyone posting again political stuff NOT related to "China's SCS Strategy" into a three month vacation!

Its not about how serious the accident is, its about the government not coming clean with it and trying to sweep it under the rug like nothing happened. They are deleting all picture and video of it on domestic internet. To my knowledge all of those accidents in/about the US were heavily reported both domestically and internationally.

Yupe, to me, the worst part of this whole incident is not the actually collision itself, after all it was just a minor accident and it doesn't change the reality or the calculus in the SCS, but it is actually the Chinese government blocking, deleting and censoring the information and discussion of this event. That's why I keep saying China's PR/Propaganda is so primitive. Instead of China setting, leading and telling the narrative of this event, now Chinese citizens will be getting the narratives from foreign sources, like from Philippines. Hope the Chinese propaganda department understands blocking information/dicussion is not the effective or correct way of doing thing anymore.

Agree! In addition to failed propaganda/censorship and PLAN f-up per irrefutable evidence, another lesson for Beijing is underestimating the Manila's determination to take back Scarborough Shoal. Given the shoal's relative proximity to the Philippines, Manila does not need to send large coast guard cutters or naval vessels to keep a permanent presence. A few highly maneuverable fishing vessels would be sufficient to maintain such presence through constant harassment of CCG vessels stationed there. Currently, China's strategy appears to be preventing the Philippines from entering Scarborough/Huangyan's inner lagoon but is not able to stop all attempt to get within the shoal's proximity.

Questions to consider: why isn't Beijing mobilising its fishing fleet to just fish on large scales in and around Scarborough/Huangyan during fishing seasons? Is it due to the risk that the PCG could just snatch a few Chinese fishermen at locations unguarded by CCG and subsequently use them as leverages (like the 2010 Japanese capture of the Chinese captain and Diaoyu/Senkaku)? To mitigate such risk, couldn't the government simply arm those fishermen (many are already maritime militia qualified to use firearms) with assault rifles and shotguns for self-defense? The US and many Europeans countries allow commercial and fishing vessels to carry firearms at sea. Wouldn't mobilising fishermen en masses be a more viable tactic to maintain China's control of the shoal than sending 7500 tons destroyers to waste time/resources chasing after highly maneuverable PCG cutters?
