China's Population Crisis

I don't see this as a major problem. China's population is IMO too big, and along the features mentioned, i.e. jobs, school, you still have water to deal with, China is always on the verge of running out of water and all the toxic spills are not helping.

And if you pay up, the government will look away, seen it before.

If this happens, China one day might become what is now of Europe (Started to be filled up with migrants from different races).
This is happening already. Guangzhou has a large number of Arabs and Africans. If you think about it, when a country becomes rich, it becomes attractive and immigrants are what you get. Same with Europe and North America and I have seen no exception.
chinese men should hate mao, and i hate mao too. him and his ignorance led to a bunch of our women in foreign soil with foreign men
Uh, what policies did Mao input that could've costed that?

As for the chinese men marrying women of other races - well i'm not complaining, there are a lot of fish in the sea (jj)
I personally think the latter thorn is far smaller in Chinese minds than the former, but we're starting to see some chinese men getting relationships with caucasianwomen as a trend...
Really? I don't know about the World down South, but here..... if you have heard about Wongfu and Brown Yellow, and things here in general, you wouldn't say that.

AssasinMace: LOL, Can I guess that you learned that under Greg? But I think the guys meant inside China only (And I know of no any bachelor-ish periods in China) not Chinese overseas.

I think the whole "women marrying foreign men" thing is more testy because of reminders of foreign domination (i.e; women marrying rich foreign dude for his cash, but also for their personalities and western cultures, which they find more attractive and "hip"/"cool" than some Chinese ones - can't judge taste), or is racial domination a better word?
Wasn't there a thread a while back which had this subject?

u've nailed wt i'm feeling

to be honest i feel strange about my thoughts too. im born in hk, grew up in canada, my grandfather married my grandmother who's sino-indonesian, and im moderate in political views. however im very conscious about "our women" married to foreigners, therefore i have mixed feelings towards interracial relationships. i'm a supporter to you know, acceptance and tolerance and against racism. but on the other hand, interracial is a controversial topic in my mind, and this is the reason why.

up until a few years ago, im completely fine with interracial relationships, or asian women with white guys. however to me one of the biggest reasons of this change will be the stereotypes towards asians in western society and the whole asian fetish, asianphilia thing. the whole "exotic image" of asian women and degrading asian men disgusted me terribly it's got a lasting effect.

another reason will be wt bltizo have covered. there were women who ignorantly "claimed they would never date asian men because blahblahblah" and then white men who dates asian women for the "exotic factor". when you have both ignorance put together, it bugs me a lot because this reinforce the stereotypes that's portrayed in the media. i'm totally fine if the relationship was of true substance: love and understanding.

this thought influenced me so deeply, i actually consider koreans and japanese as closer. this is because despite race, japanese or chinese or koreans, we basically suffer from the same treatment

basically to sum it up. im not against interracial relationships if it's actual love n understanding. but if it isn't, it may reinforce the negative stereotypes and contempt, and this is what i really dont hope will happen

They'll probably formally loosen the one-child policy in some major cities but that's at least many years away.
Another recent news item is the 'excess' 24 million men in China who can't find a wife. I think they should encourage some kind match-making ventures for these men with women from certain countries from which China bought a lot of IOUs. Since in Chinese culture, it's the men who pay for marriages expenses, :( that would put good use to the foreign exchange reserves before they further devalue. Solve the 'lonely men' problem, help with population growth, increase cultural exchanges, put the FX reserves to good use or even seen as a way of repaying those IOUs China is holding. A win-win-win situation isn't it ? :)

Who's Greg?

The whole point of why the media is making an issue of this is the racism behind it. Overseas or not, like I said if the scare-mongers need an example of what happens, then they only have to look at their own history where all the violence came from themselves not the Chinese. And they didn't have a bachelor society as an excuse.

Many Chinese still have the mentality of marrying for the purpose of having children so that their family names will be maintained generations after generations. It is an act of dishonour to break 0ff the chain, 断香火mean having no descendent bearing family name, is a curse many want to avoid.

Unless this mentality is changed, Chinese parents still prefer male babies. they will find what-ever ways (whether effective or not is another story) to make sure they give birth to baby boys.

Just to share my two cents with you guys... many Chinese women now prefer living alone without marriage, part of them divorce after getting married for some time. I've at least three Chinese (women) friends who stay single until their late 30s and 40s and still single now aday.

If only two children were allowed per couple, one would think that the population would stay the same but it doesn't. The population would actually drop because you have to account for other factors such as premature death. China's one-child policy should see a greater drop in population after a generation since implementation. China's population is still growing. The birth rate is the only thing that has just been reduced. So the one-child policy is not being truly enforced.

dont see interracial marriage as a big problem, its actually part of China's traditional advantage as a nation. though i have to admit its a sticky issue for many countries in the world, come to north america and see how many caucasian women prefer black men (for what reason i dont wanna know). but if that's their choice then so be it.

btw i think the whole thing with women prefer to stay single is because they are too "well educated" and think that no one in the world deserve to be with them...whatever its their choice, not like we have a shortage of women LOL

Serious about the "well educated" part? I thought it was more because they want to put their careers first before they take part in a serious relationship or anything... Make some cash before getting a mortgage and a family...

Umm... the one-child policy was implemented in the early 80's. The only way we'd see a population drop from that policy would be when the parents of one-child families start passing away, and that isn't going to happen for another 20-30 years, maybe even 40, with the way the life expectancy is rising nowadays.

I believe that in rural areas, there is a policy that you can have two children if the first child is a girl. That's a pretty smart way to alleviate the gender imbalance.

There is also the factors of ethnic minorities and immigration. Ethnic minorities account for about 8% of China's population, and they're allowed to have as many kids as they want, and they often take full advantage of this. Further, as China becomes more economically advanced, it will become more and more attractive to immigrants.
