Designs of the new military medals revealed:
This is a follow-up of
this news posted above.
The top level are 勋章 (tranlation?), with 八一 ("August 1st") being the highest order. The 八一 medals are not specific to war time. The next order is 红旗 ("Red Flag"), followed by 红星 ("Red Star") for war time.
和平勋章 ("Peace") is for foreigners. The design of 勋章 are illustrated in the first and second columns below.
The second level are 荣誉称号奖章 (medals of honorary titles), in three categories: 战时 (war time), 平时 (peace time) and 重大非战争军事行动 (peace time critical military activities?). There are three war time honorary titles: 特级战斗英雄 (Top class hero/heroine in battles), 一级战斗英雄 (Class 1) and 二级战斗英雄 (Class 2). There is one honorary title each in the peace time and "peace time critical military activities" categories. The designs are in the third column.
The third level are 奖励奖章 (medals of awards?), also in three categories: war time, peace time and peace time critical military activities. There are four classes of war time awards: 一等战功,二等战功,三等战功,四等战功 (from Class 1 to Class 4). They are for three 情形 (scenarios): 指挥作战 (battle commanding?), 参加战斗 (battle participation), 支援保障 (battle support).
The fourth level are 表彰奖章 (medals of praise?), with 一级 (Class 1), 二级 (Class 2), 三级 (Class 3) for Chinese citizens, and 和平 ("Peace") for foreigners. The designs are in the fifth column.
Last but not the least, the 纪念奖章 (memorial medals) designs are in the sixth column. In the peace time category at this level, there are 4 kinds: 国防服役 (armed service enrollment?), 国防服务 (national defense service?), 卫国戍边 (specific for those who stationed on the borders), 献身国防 (not sure about this?). Each kind has 5 classes: Top, Class 1 to Class 4. There is also 和平 ("Peace") for foreigners. 其他纪念章 (memorial medals in the misc. category) are not described here.
