huanqiu Network reporter Li Zongze reported, according to White House Web site on October 8 Obama released a letter to Congress shows that Obama asked the U.S. Congress to approve the export to China of a U.S. military C-130 transport plane, used to clean oil spills at sea . If Obama asked for congressional approval, it will be the first time since 1989 U.S. exports to China high-tech military weapons.

A C-130 transport plane could be used to clean oil spills at sea? C-130 is high-tech? And China has a need for such planes?

Must be Obama.

That's interesting. Oil spills? Is that just a cover excuse? I wonder if this opens the door for A400M sales to counter.

Are they C-130Js'? Are non J variants still in production? 0.o

A Y-8 can do many of the things C-130's are capable of, surely if china had such a need for Hercules then they could modify the Y-8 themselves... (how the f can C-130's assit in oil spill operations apart from maybe spotting them? It's not like China doesn't have any planes at all)
And has China even requested sales for C-130's??

Considering the current state of relations between the two countries I doubt this is a genuine, friendly offer from Obama... I doubt they'd be trying to kill the Y-9; the transport needs of the PLA can not be sated by a few C-130's and Y-9 will certainly still have a major future role.

wtf??

The letter is scanned, why no signature? I doubt the credibility of the news. Have you got a link to the website of the Whitehouse?

I think it basically means that US is trying to open the embargoment that they had set against China... after seeing how the Russian actually profit from selling Su-27 and other system to China... while China still poses not a very credible threat against the Russian in terms of security yet.

Plus the weaponries and equipment (hardware and software) developed by China basing on these sales will not actually amount to much of a threat against the US too. Because they might be aimed at a different market. China might be aiming at selling to third world or fourth world countries that couldn't afford US made military equipment. While first world nations or developed nations who wanted to buy equipment might not want to go to China and instead still carry on the tradition of buying from US.

And since one of the EU country -Norway had started selling high tech equipment to China that could be used to upgrade the missile system of China, US must have felt pretty foolish to have leave out such big market.

And if this deal went through... I am sure to see that EU will raise the arms embargoment and western military hardware will start flowing into China... that is... if CHina is still interested in buying from them.

Well... it was all business as usual.

Why would China be interested in the C-130 when it is fully capable of developing its own? F-15 and F-22, China will consider.
