I would say the UN report is actually a win for China. Skimming over the report, it confirms what reasonable people expected from the mass detainment and vocational centers: the cops running the anti-extremism campaign went extremely overboard on arrests and crackdowns and prisoners were abused but that they're neither death nor slave labor camps and that the demographic data zenz crows about is from family planning services being pushed and the limits on children being enforced whereas they weren't really before. Most of all, no evidence of any sort of genocide.

The ET terrorists are already frothing at the mouth denouncing the report and the exiting head.
I don't think so. All western media is going to focus on is the "torture confirmed by UN" claim, and westerners will simply use that to "prove" whatever preconceived biases they already had beforehand.

It's ridiculous. She's essentially trying to play the middle ground and claim both sides have right and wrong (oh there's torture but it's not genocide blah blah) when in reality she has zero actual evidence of abuses.

It's like if one side claimed the earth was round and the other claimed it was flat. Michelle Bachelet then comes in and says oh maybe the earth is half flat and half round.

Who cares though, it’s been well proven that the US and it’s allies also employ torture. Sure they can try to cry about that, but in the end it dosent have the same impact as the genocide and forced labor claims.

from the report:

“People accused of being terrorists without trial being subjected to interrogation with water being poured in their faces;
prolonged solitary confinement; and being forced to sit motionless on small stools for prolonged periods of time. Persons reporting beatings for confessions described being taken to interrogation rooms that were separate to the cells or dormitory spaces where people were to interrogation rooms that were separate to the cells or dormitory spaces where people were staying”

Hardly world shattering stuff, nowhere near what they were doing in Guantanamo or other US black sites.

in the end, at least from my initial scan, the report refutes their main attacks against china, genocide and slave labor.

Three senior officials have been expelled from the Communist Party of China over serious violations, the country's top anti-graft bodies said on Tuesday.
Sun Guoxiang, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Liaoning Provincial People's Congress, was expelled from the Party and removed from his post, according to a statement issued by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission on Tuesday.
Sun instructed private business owners to give him money, which he used to bribe others in order to gain himself a promotion. He also accepted gifts and invitations to banquets that may have compromised his ability to perform his duties fairly, it said.
He failed to confess his offenses in letters of inquiry from the Party. It's unclear what he offered private businesses in return for their money.
Sun also took advantage of his position to seek benefits for his relatives' business activities. He used his public power as a tool for personal gain, and to help people obtain bank loans and special funding, and he accepted a great deal of money and property in return.
He was placed under investigation in June. His case will be transferred to procuratorial organs, along with the money and property he received.
Chen Jiadong, former chairman of the Standing Committee of the Xiamen Municipal People's Congress in Fujian province, was also expelled from the Party and removed from his post, according to another statement issued by the CCDI and NSC.
It said Chen abused his power for personal promotion, resisted organizational censorship and engaged in superstitious activities. He also took part in "image projects" that wasted manpower and money, and he wrongfully accepted gifts, money and banquet invitations.
Chen also appointed cadres based on favoritism and personal relations. He didn't disclose his misconduct in letters of inquiry, and he also failed to report personal matters as required.
He also used his power to seek benefits for his relatives' business activities, to gain sexual favors, to interfere in construction projects and to gain profits for others in enterprise operations and project contracting.
He accepted large amounts of money and property, embezzled State-owned assets, engaged in malpractice for personal gains and abused his power, resulting in heavy losses for the State, the statement said.
Chen was placed under investigation in February. Procuratorial organs will take up his case and confiscate money and property that he received.
The third official to be expelled by the Party was Huang Yi, former vice-chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, another statement reported.
Huang seriously deviated from the Party's united front work guidelines, policies and principles, seriously polluted the local political ecology and resisted censorship from the organization.
He accepted gifts for a long time, and he attended banquets and private clubs that may have compromised his duties. Huang also failed to report personal issues as required, and did not disclose his misdeeds in Party talks and inquiries.
Huang earned a lot of money through private lending and engaged in profit-making activities. He also took advantage of his positions to gain profits for others in personnel appointments, project contracting and project approvals. Like the other two officials, he, too, accepted a large amount of money and property, it said.
He was put under investigation in March. His case and ill-gotten gains will be transferred to procuratorial organs.

China mulls listing telecom fraud suspects into social credit system

China's legislation draft seeks to list people related to telecommunication fraud into its social credit system, and increase punishment for people involved in such fraud, as the government's newest effort in clamping down rampant telecommunication-related fraud.
Yang Heqing, a spokesperson for the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee, said at a press conference on Friday that the new draft will increase punishment for people involved in the telecommunication fraud, and list them into China's social credit system, so to take punishment measures accordingly.
Serious violators of the social credit system could be banned from taking trains and flights.
The draft also emphasized educating elderly and children, who are most easily lured by such fraud; and urged rewards systems for reporting such fraud.
Wait, the social credit system was real all along?

For businesses/entrepreneurs there is a social credit system where they track fraud and stuff, but the western variant of a society wide social credit system is fake. At least that is what i got from Chinese law analysts.

In Chinese it is called "失信", meaning untrustworthy. This takes into account whether a person is paying off debts, paying off credit card balances, and paying employees.
Usually a guy must have fucked up big time to get into the situation of not being able to travel on plane or on train, not able to borrow money from bank, not able to apply for credit card, etc.

Interesting take on the US and China relations. It's pretty good but the only thing I don't like is when he mentions Taiwan as a "country" when they are not. But he is right that the US needs to learn how to co exist with China. The "stop China" rising is way too late.

The credit system here mainly focuses on financial evaluation, such as credit card default, non-repayment of loans and other impacts on credit, which is basically borrowed from the European and American credit systems.

Wang Bin, former chairman of China Life Insurance Co, has been dismissed from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and public office for serious duty violations including creating and magnifying financial risks, China's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) announced on Thursday.

After an investigation conducted by the CCDI, Wang was found to have created and magnified financial risks as well as engaged in financial corruption, having received bribes in violation of laws and accepted travel arrangements and banquets that ran against his official duties.

Also, Wang owned shares of non-listed companies in violation of regulations. He also interfered with and meddled in market economic activities, conniving and helping his relatives to carry out activities in violation of disciplines and laws.

According to the CCDI, Wang "used public power as an instrument to reap huge personal profits," taking advantage of his position to benefit others in loan financing and project cooperation, and receiving large amounts of money and property.

He also resisted scrutiny and review by the CCDI, the commission added.

Wang was chairman of China Taiping Insurance Group and executive director of China's Bank of Communications. From August 2018, he served as chairman of China Life Insurance.

The CCDI noted that Wang seriously violated the party's political discipline and work discipline. Due to the very bad influence of his case, Wang has to be dealt with seriously, the CCDI said.

According to relevant laws including the Law of China on Supervision, Wang was dismissed from the Party and public office, with all proceeds he gained in violation of discipline and laws being confiscated.

Suspected criminal violations related to Wang will be transferred to the procuratorial organ for examination and prosecution in accordance with China's laws, the CCDI said.
