Good enough to get them to delete it. The anti-mainlander racism was the strongest part of his defense, I would have liked to see more material on that. That section was probably why it was deleted as well!

Emphasizing how China "trades freedom for stability" is a tired trope, and accepts as an (unreasonable) premise that free speech and the rest of the so called "universal rights" are good.

On what basis is anyone entitled to freedom of speech, religion, protest, assembly, etc? If we accept these rights as unalienable, then we have to accept various forms of agitation for treason as also reasonable. Are these freedumbs more important than the state which makes it possible to enjoy them? Do you have these rights in a state of anarchy?

Its obvious that the HK insurgents were intent on creating a violent movement, as attested to the widespread violence against mainlanders they spawned. If they want all these universal human rights, then they should have started by embodying them.

Instead, they could not contain their tribal bloodlust. Viewed in this context, their calls for "muh freedom of speech" was just an excuse to launder their own hatred without consequence. If they wanted to introduce a western culture of muh freedumbs, then they shouldn't have attempted to organize pogroms.

In other words, once they became violent protesters, the crackdown was entirely justified. This is the same line that many Westerners use to condemn riots in their own societies. They say they support XYZ movement, but only if it remains "peaceful" and non confrontational. This rhetoric is understood by many viewers, and should be used more often.

***********************

Also, basically every liberal thinks that the Jan 6 riot at Washington D.C. amounted to an insurrection and want the participants rounded up. The HK rioters did much worse, so its obvious that locking up violent political criminals is something everyone wants.
Dont forget it was Putin, not the US MSM, that revealed America captured and held 450 protesters of Jan 6th as prisoners without bail or charges or due process...

The irony of ironies

CNBC business anchor thought he was going to put Joe Tsai (Vice-Chairman Alibaba) on the spot by going through the usual "human rights" propaganda attack against China and asking him to defend it. The outcome and the response isn't what the propagandist was expecting. As a consequence, this portion of the interview was apparently deleted before airtime.

OMG. WTF I was reading the comments on youtube.
The comments was suddenly turned off after a lot of criticism on censorship.

Japan must disavow pacifism and embrace collective defense

Change in policy would fulfill, not violate, its national responsibilities
Elbridge Colby and Jennifer Lind
June 18, 2021

"During the Cold War, the Soviets responded to West German participation with propaganda that German militarism was once again on the rise. The Chinese would respond to greater Japanese activism with the same. But other countries know that it is China -- not Japan -- that is the country whose defense spending has increased by 620% since 1990; Japan is not flouting international law and threatening its neighbors. Greater Japanese activism is a defensive, responsible reaction to Japan's worsening threat environment."

Eldridge Colby is hellbent and on a mission to drag the Asia-Pacific into war as to ensure American hegemony. After all, it's worth nothing that it's the Asia-Pacific region that's predicted to become the biggest economic driver in the world with China at the lead. I hope Japan's leadership will not make the fatal mistake thinking that following such advice will lead them anywhere but to ruin. The people in Asia specifically China, Korea where Japanese military cruelty and crimes still lingers in their collective memories. Japan better be careful what it unleashes. It wouldn't be too difficult to rile up Chinese nationalism and bitter memories of WWII. Eldridge Colby is one f...ng sack piece of s..t.

It is going to fail.

The Chinese are all about business. Belt and Road, the RCEP, and the Chinese Communist Party is always talking about the win-win.

The win-win is all about business and development.

What are the Americans talking about. War! War! WAR!

What the ... ...

So we got one side who wants to talk about the win-win for development (and most people would realize peace is needed for that, they were able to figure that out) ... ... then we have that other side, always talking about potential war. (Incidentally USA-land has been doing some kind of war continuously somewhere in the world for who knows how many years now).

And they still talk about war. Here is one side talking about win-win, which needs peace.

The other side insists to keep talking about war.

People in the region will make the obvious choice.

The best part they are making these choices evident. Do they even realize what they are doing?

They are making people chose between war and peace.

It is kind of like game over at this point, once the choice is that.

(Then they would protest and say that is not what they mean at all.)

Panic city is Washington DC. Strategies straight out of the comic book.

Well instead of rearming to serve as cannon fodder for the US, Japan should emulate Germany by stamping out militarism and their ideology, genuinely contrite for their brutal occupation of China, Teach the young the real history. And make amend with their neighbor. It is easier and cheaper than try to compete on defense spending with China which she will never can . Because Chinese economy is now 3.5X Japanese economy and the gap will only increase over time. Japan prosperity and well being is tied to her neighbor and not from land far away.

But there is still sense of arrogance and insecurity in their political elite that tied them to sinking ship. The business sector are all in for genuine reconciliation because they know first hand the dynamism of Chinese economy and they vote with their money. Even the younger generation are now more attuned to modern lifestyle in China. It just the old guard and political elite that is still dreaming of Dai Nippon!

Are young Japanese increasingly visit/live/work in China nowadays?

It would be a good policy if China made it easier for Japanese to live in China. It would promote cultural ties, influence them, and also drain the Japanese economy of its talent (brain drain). Plus the Japanese are ultra hard-working people so they wouldnt be a drag on the economy.

There is only positives for China to do this. Better to have young Japanese live in China and help it grow than help Japan grow.

This is a win-win for China. It wins whatever it does

Yes there is huge Japanese student body in China When I was in language school, there are bus load of Japanese student learning Chinese. They have their own class since they already know Kanji. They stay for months in the dorms. They have whole floor reserve for them. They normally sponsor by organization that donates money, Language lab to the University. Now even inter marriage is common which is almost impossible just 2 decades ago. Chinese is the 2nd most popular foreign language in Japan now. There are huge Japanese colony in Dalian, Shanghai and Soochow with their own Japan town
