As Typhoon Haikui dumped multiple rounds of extreme rainfall that flooded the Peng village in Maoming, South China's Guangdong Province, more than 70 crocodiles have been flushed to the streets after a crocodile farm was damaged amid heavy rains, media reported on Tuesday. Local authorities are trying to catch the escaped creatures using sonar equipment, while reminding residents to refrain from going outdoors.

In a video circulating online on Monday, several crocodiles were spotted on the road near the lake in the village, with a road sign indicating direction to Maoming. Residents were told to stay away from the waters and fishing activities were banned.

According to local villagers who had previously seen crocodiles at the nearby farm, they weigh at least 100 kilograms each. Local security officers said the animals are currently in deep water, and they are using sonar equipment to capture the escaped crocodiles, which will be shot dead out of security concerns.

"We are trying to control the matter but the number of escaped crocodiles is quite large," an official said. According to data, there are 69 adult crocodiles and 6 juvenile crocodiles on the run.

Multiple departments are already stationed at the scene to ensure the safety of residents, while suggesting them to stay indoors as the capture operation was difficult, media reports said.

No casualties have been reported as of press time, staff at the emergency management bureau of Maoming told media on Tuesday.

Affected by Typhoon Haikui, multiple areas in Maoming issued a red warning for rainstorms from Monday evening to Tuesday. In the early morning on Tuesday, Maoming upgraded its flood emergency response level from level IV to III.

The recent heavy rainfall in Maoming has caused significant damage to the rural areas where villagers mainly rely on fish farming and raising poultry and livestock for their livelihoods. Numerous fish ponds and breeding farms have been flooded, resulting in substantial property losses, China Newsweek reported.

The person in charge of a crocodile farm in Maoming told China Newsweek that the breeding area is usually secured by a 3-meter high wall and wire mesh. He speculated that the heavy rains may have caused flooding that breached the enclosure walls, and the wire mesh failed to prevent the crocodiles from escaping.

Interesting there are rumors that China is going to have a new defence minister, interesting is that it's another high ranking official and besides some generals who were dismissed also recently.
There are widespread rumours that the son of one the the PLA officers undergoing investigation was bought off by the CIA. Could be the son of either a PLARF general or Li Shangfu’s own son. Not sure, just rumours now.

Heck, there were even rumours that Qin Gang and his girlfriend were US spies.

Or all of these folks were simply arrested for not obeying Xi or being too corrupt to the point in which their units/offices began to fail in their respective tasks.

I don’t want to speculation too much, but have both the foreign and defence minister, along with nearly all senior PLARF simultaneously removed seem quite odd to me. Something big seems to be going on.

You had already put up too much speculation. Wild ones, unless you could give reliable sources.

It's all a result of that coup that removed Xi from power. You know, the one with the giant skeleton stomping Beijing.

MSM claimed that the corruption campaign is aimed at Xi's rivals and would stop after Xi secured his third term. Guess Xi doesn't plan to stop cracking down on corruption even if so called his allies were the ones that got investigated.

What is funny right now is that MSM is saying that cracking down on corruption is bad for economy and for China.

Yes. Qin Gang was a personal appointee. If you screwed up, you screwed up. They won’t tolerate cocaine addicts in the Zhongnanhai just because you are someone’s son or ally.
