Most people will assume the name Matthew Vaille Lee (Matt Lee) is an English last name, perhaps distant relative to the famed American civil war general Robert E. Lee, who is of English ancestry. However, this is not the case here.
The story started in 1872,Qing imperial court sent the second group of young Chinese to America to study, among them, a young boy named Lee Yan Phou (李恩富), around 12 year old. ( the name is spell with

In 1881 (光绪七年), Lee Yan Phou (李恩富) with other 119 students was forced to cut their study short and went back to China. When back home, they are still being sidelined by the conservative faction of the imperial court. While Lee's name is not well know if at all, but one other student became famous in China, the father of the Chinese railroad,
(詹天佑).
Young Mr. Lee is majored in English language, he went back to the US later to finish his study. One other reason he went back to the US is the passing of the

Mr. Lee went back to his old school John Hopkins University to finish his study. In second year, he finished first in Latin study and first overall in his class, and being accepted into Yale University. Mr. Lee's first child is name Clarence Vallie Lee, the middle name is in honour of the American lady (Sarah W. Vaille) whom he stay with during his time study in America for 7 years.
Matthew Vaille Lee is the great grandson of Mr. Lee Yan Phou. He never shy about his Chinese Heritage when introduce himself even during today's anti-China environment in the US. He always calls out the hypocrisy of the US government, give a voice of truth, reason and justice. Even though he files his reports to AP, seldom does AP's editors publishes those reports he filed without major editing.
PS. If anyone who is truly deserve a legendry wumao medal, it should be Mr. Matthew Vaille Lee.
