Two weeks ago a Chinese academician responsible for radar development claimed that China is retrofitting J-10s and J-11s with AESA radars. However, the radar dome on this J-11 doesn't seem to be canted. I think it is probably still using old avionics and radar.
It doesn't have to be canted to be AESA. The J-16's isn't and it's still an AESA, albeit from the 607th rather than 14th.

Unlike the J-11B, the J-16 also needs to deal with ground/surface targets on a regular basis. I don't think it's radar will be configured the same way on the J-11B.

Externally looks like it but I just cannot imagine that they'd want to make a bunch of retro J-11B when they've got such superior avionics available. They even added wingtip pylons but didn't bother with the obviously needed radar upgrade? Common sense says they'd use something technologically similar to J-10C level.

That will require additional testing though. Doesn't really make much sense if it is a stop-gag measure.

If they really are retrofitting older variants with AESAs, they mightn't bother with changing the radar configuration and would just plug in an AESA variant of the existing slotted arrays like the US with the APG-63(V)3. There's also a

released by the RAAF that said AESAs are tilted upwards primarily to reduce radar cross-section so if the PLAAF doesn't care too much about RCS-reduction, they mightn't see the need to change the radar support structure of their old J-10As and J-11Bs to possess the upwards tilt.

if I am not mistaken the AESA radar on J-11 is using a straight (not sloped) radome. The F16 upgrade (AN/APG-80) radome is also straight.

There were rumors about PLAAF imported Flankers having shorter-than-expected service lives, which could potentially explain the resumption of J-11B production. J-11D has been delayed but according to recent claims and satellite photos still active (~5 prototypes allegedly built).

It doesn't surprise me .... and I believe PLAAF would retire them anyway soon .... just too obsolete and not sure whether those could fire Chinese missiles

And the fact that it has a pitot tube and a black radome made me wonder as well

Do we know how many of the original su27 have been retired? I know years ago a few dozen we're retired. But no news since then. Though it seems likely more must have been retired since.
