what a beautiful bird...J-16 with WS-10 engines
the pitot tube has been removed to accommodate active phased array radar.
it is believed that China has already produced dozens of these beauties and it is expected that J-16 will become the backbone of the frontline fighters within the next 5-10 years...
such a stunner.., hope this fighter has not shown before.....

Probably will replace the Su-30s as frontline patrol fighters in both the East and South China Seas.

I would love to know where are the operational J-16s are assigned to.

Why these two provinces ? Zhejiang could be the 85th Brigade then, while at Hainan all units are already flying either J-11BH/BSH or JH-7A ?

SU-30MKK is still relatively young ... it will (still) serve PLAAF for long time. The oldest one (MKK - 76 units) was delivered from 2000 and the latest one (MK2 - 24 units) in 2004 ... still very young and quite modern

That was from the first close encounter some time ago ...

If you want to know where the J-16's will be posted just look up the PLANAF units with Q-5 Fantan's in them. Those are the most likely to be replaced by the J-16.

These days the SAC is almost working exclusively for the PLAN. Both the new J-15's and the J-16's are going to the PLANAF. This is because China will only have a joint command in 2020. The lack of a joint command is a serious weakness of the PLA. It seems that China will plug the gap for the next few years by strengthening the PLANAF to give the new ships better air cover.
