I don't think they were carrying out strike exercises; neither the Su-27SKs/J-11As nor Su-27UBKs carry precision-guided air-to-surface weaponry.

i know but every time we see a new PLAAF drill or promotional video, it's always the J-11A that takes the spotlight. I wonder how many J-11Bs there are in comparison to J-11As in the PLAAF...

There are roughly 150+ J-11Bs, 105 J-11As, and 78 Su-27s. However, the lack of J-11B footage is mostly due to the PLAAF's efforts to conceal it.

Another potentially good article ruined by the ignorance of key factors. The author states the J-11 is "outclassed" but only refers to the J-11A model not the J-11B which basically gives the Su-30 a run for its money and is present in a higher number in the PLAAF arsenal...
