I think those malicious Chinese program managers have nothing better to do than to torment deino, and will hold off the first flight of 2011 indefinitely for no valid reason other than satisfy some private relish for pins and needles deino would endure while his wait stretches on and on.., :).

I am just kidding! the real 2011 has been flying for weeks at a secret, undisclosed airfield located in area 52 in a off limits, shoot on sight section of the sparsely populated province of transmongolia. The unfliable mockup seen in photographs looks nothing like the actual prototype and is for disinformational purposes only.

:)

Actually you joke but I have a feeling that 2011 has already taken to the skies at least once unbeknownst to us all.

OK brother, I see your feeling, and I'm gonna match that with my last Franklin and a firm NYET!

We're basically flying the third prototype aircraft with, clipped verts and reconfigured in-lets, additional avionics, sensors and a little additional weight, the only substantive change aerodynamically are the reconfigured inlets and fuselage juncture, might provide more lift, might not????? This is unlikely to be a great drama for the PIC or the Engineers, in fact I would almost bet they didn't even change the FCS, hence there is no reason for the drama of sneaking around in the dark.

That's why it's just a wild guess on my part however while I agree with your reasoning it could also be applied to it having already flown being that it's not that BIG of a deal to the engineers etc as oppose to the initial first flight of the J-20. I mean did 2001 first flew at night? We only know about the 'official' first flight but I think all of us here would agree that it flown even before Gates's visit.

If we just stop and think about the progress China is making we have three J20 units and J31 plus we have J10B, J15, J16 and JH-7B

plus whole load of other aircraft, all the hard work is being paid off

Actually No, I very seldom disagree with you, but I do think the Chinese are ballsy enough to fly 2001 for the first time during Gates visit. Besides Gates was so sure the J-20 wouldn't be a factor until 2020, that they might have really "hustled to fly it during his visit, so he could "eat a little crow" and to gain a psychological "one-upmanship" during their negotiations with him, after all who could resist making the US Sec Def look like a dofus! which he is frankly. So #1, 2001 did fly during Gates visit, and #2 2011 has NOT flown yet,,,, really, 2011 has been as anxiously awaited as a "first born son", there is NO Way that we wouldn't know, with all the forum boys having Chengdu on "lock-down".. In hopes that they will make a liar out of me, I doubt they fly 2011 before the Chinese New Year, but one thing is sure, when they spool that bird, everybody and his dog will know it, unless the Chinese Government puts Chengdu on a real "lock-down,,,,, and shuts the local net down, really, trust me on this one!

no problemo brat.. a lil disagreement here and there is a healthy thang! I do personally think J-20 flew b4 Gates's visit but obviously just a guess on my part. As to 2011 just like you and many here I'm eagerly awaiting her 'first' flight.. weather she has actually flown or not..we'll never know but I'm eagerly awaiting for pictures be it first or second flight.

Agree completely Kwai, now my apologies, I think I am the joker who took us OT on the Flanker thread, and I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the J-15s on the Liaoning, I hope there are at least a couple of two holers along with the 4 to 6 that we should minimally expect, and I always appreciate your point of view, and I personally appreciate your service to our country, and your service as Navy veteran here on our forum is most welcome and informative. Blessings to you and all of our forum members as we celebrate the Chinese New Year. bax

some new photos of J-15,J-11B and J-11BS...I am not sure whether the J-11's are for PLAAF or PLANAF. Don't think PLAAF received any new J-11B/BS in the past year...
