OP-ED piece only.

China Coast Guard might extend its operations to Central America to curb drug smuggling.

I have been thinking this too. I am also trying to make a case for Type 022 to do this, and I am getting closer…

A great place to exercise the CGC/Type 022 is….. Kaliningrad. it’s got air cover and it literally borders Lithuania.

I don't think China does this, because now is the time to make the EU neutral.

this is not Coast Guard !
its Maritime Safety Administration, MSA a civil organisation of the ministry of transport for ship inspection, port supervision, nautical safety, marine enviroment protection and hydrographic service. The vessels and crew are unarmed!
Why does the MSA still exist if there is already a coast guard. I think it should either be disbanded or merged into the coast guard.

022 is too small for traversing oceans, carrying enough food and fuel for the trip while carrying enough soldiers for boarding operations, helicopter for surveillance and rescue, and so on. This seems like a best job for the CGC's larger cutters, those over 4000 tons to 12,000 tons.

I foresee the CGC continuing to expand and becoming a large blue water force of its own. It often does jobs like patrolling and securing the safety of fishermen while hunting out illegal fishing. Another job is escorting oceanographic, science and survey vessels. Why not patrol for pirates around the African coast, the Indian Ocean, or take over Gulf of Aden escort missions?

The CMSA is a strictly civilian agency under the Ministry of Transport, whereas the CCG is a paramilitary force that is part of the Armed Police which in turn reports directly to the Central Military Commission. The two are operationally and organisationally distinct agencies.

PAP is like the National guard, police is like the civil police. In china 99.9% of police don't carry firearms. PAP don't deal with everyday problems like giving out speeding tickets, they handle terrorists.
Same here. CCG is the maritime branch of PAP, while MSA is civilian.

I believe BlindSight was asking a rhetorical question to undermine the user’s claim’s logic.
