The Garrett on #36011 might be for timing – it can fly once installed.
Both North and South projects have top priority for wind tunnel use.
The second prototype isn't sequential to the first; they're testing different things.
Not sure about that leading edge. Second prototype images also seem to feature a kink in the nose edge, like the first prototype.
Really? And any hints what are they testing?
IMO it makes no sense to built to such similar but still dramatically different aircraft to test different things?!

Yankee: Whiteboard (a content creator) mentioned a speculation I think is very true — the difference in appearance between #1 and #2 doesn’t mean that #2 was an improvement based on #1. Rather, it’s a kind of parallel development, verifying different directions. Although we can’t yet clearly explain the underlying reason, it’s definitely not a case of “#1 flew, it didn’t work, so they changed it into #2.”
Xiyazhou: It might be because the configuration of #1 could be built faster.
Yankee: Ah — Xiyazhou has already revealed the secret.
Yankee: When that thing 36022 had just flown ...
Yankee: There’s absolutely no need for anyone to have any doubts about the progress of the Sixer. In fact, let me put it in the most extreme way — by the time we get to the 2027 New Year’s greetings, when the officers and soldiers of a certain Air Force test base send their greetings to the people of the motherland, if there are a few strange-looking things parked in the background, no one should be surprised.
