Chengdu next gen combat aircraft (?J-36) thread

... In contrast, the high-profile debut of the J-36 is markedly different from the J-20's case. I won’t speculate on the intentions behind this, but I want to emphasize that the transparency of these two maiden flights differs.

So with the recent test flights, there have been some comments regarding this topic again. From my understanding, the debut of the J-36 was not fundamentally different from that of the J-20. What has changed instead are other factors, such as urban sprawl and proliferation of smartphones. The "high-profile" debut of the J-36 was the result and not necessarily the intention (obviously they should have expected it to be high-profile).

Why can't we just call it multirole and leave it at that? This whole bomber talk is pointless semantics at best and an attempt at actively derailing a flagship thread at worst.

We should focus on the real important capabilities, such as the ability to fire unguided rockets from rocket pods.
Completely agree. I just don’t get why people are taking claims that it’s a bomber to be criticism

No, you are confusing Shenyang with Chengdu. The US Consulate General in Chengdu was closed by Chinese officials in 2020.
Thanks I stand corrected.....still maybe China should *reopen* it temporarily as we test our new 6th gen aircraft-showing off that is :) :) :)
