Does anyone have access to the paper where these illustrations are taken from? Not sure if this has to do with the new Chengdu bird, but I figure my request for help will get the most eyeballs here.

I saw an earlier (technically paid) talkshow by Yankee and ShiLao where Yankee disclosed that they thought about taking J-36 apart and moving it to somewhere less populated for first flight but found the hassle not worth it. Even then, they tried to maintain as much opsec as possible and prevent people from photographing near the airport. But once it is in the air there is no stopping people from leaking photos and videos.

Did they comment on the serial number could mean? 36011 means there is at least one other prototype before this one, so it's either they completely tossed the old numbering scheme out of the window or the 36001(?) prototype was that aircraft parked on the tarmac back in 2021.

Nope. J-36 wasn’t the focus in that particular video.

if it was possible to take it apart and reassemble elsewhere, i wonder if that is what they did after the maiden flight. cuz there has been no sightings of this aircraft since...it just disappeared...

We didn’t see J-20 2001 for months either after maiden flight if I recall correctly. Every test flight is really valuable. You need to analyze the flight data carefully and tweak parameters accordingly before moving forward.

I did some digging on this forum, it seems that the second flight of the J-20 2001 prototype happened on April 18th of 2011 or 97 days after the first flight. So we should expect second flight of J-36 to be approximately three months after December 26th sometime in early April according to J-20 timeline.
