Well, here's the guy who took that photo. He said that his house was just nearby Chengdu AC, and he managed to take this photo when he was at the roof taking sunset photos.

(Profile name and photo covered for obvious reasons)

Geographic information is sufficient to find Bro's room and house number in just a few minutes. RIP

Well, like i made a point some time ago, there would have been all kinds of "tourists" taking "sunset" pictures around CAC and SAC, then rushing with the pictures back to their employer, so high resolution pictures must be already in the hands of western entities. It's not like PRC is sending someone to follow every foreigner like for instance we see in some DPRK videos. So of course CCMC has it's job to do, but imo there is little reason to actually invite someone to tea for pictures such as this, especially since the J-36 (and even J-50) serenely fly low over multi-million people cities.

This line of thinking is not really correct.

1. There is certainly an effect of drinking tea. Without such consequences, we would be seeing way more detailed pictures way sooner. The idea of deterrence also exists.

2. If such "tourists" exist, then let these pictures be taken by them and not by our citizens. At the very least it will cost the opponent more resources to obtain such images, and at most it creates the possibility for them to be caught by the MSS.

3. There is value in getting in touch with the individual. Perhaps they have more pictures? In this specific case, it seems to be someone oblivious to OPSEC ideas. These are "loose ends" that should be resolved.

Is it me, or there is some slight dihedral to the wings? I got the same impression from one of the recent videos when showing it from dead astern.
Sure looks like it, although that shouldn’t be a surprise since dihedral is applied on pretty much all modern aircrafts to improve aerodynamic performance

As good a proof we're going to get. What are the chances this person gets invited for tea?

We’re probably getting these images because the soft embargo has been lifted a little. The govt wants to fan some patriotic fervor right now.

If we get more non phone photos from now on then it will be pretty obvious imo

Dihedral wings create the bad kind of stability. The kind of stability that reduces agility thus not suitable for fighter. However, perhaps the need for stability while minimizing control surface deflection especially in a tailless fighter to manage extreme stealth has won out over the reduced need for maneuverability.

BS. The rear leading edges are not matching known photos or make any sense in term of stealth, creating additional RCS spikes that are not aligned with any other leading edges.

edit: response to a photoshopped photo above that now deleted

first I want to apologize for reading dihedral as wing twist in my very sleep-deprived state when writing my initial reply, dihedral is most certainly not on all aircrafts

as to the stability issue, adding dihedral increases roll stability compared to a baseline of no dihedral, but we really don’t know what J36’s roll stability is like with no dihedral, maybe it’s agile enough that adding a small dihedral actually helps controllability without hindering agility
