I suspect the triple engine arrangement is for development purposes only. I suspect the production aircraft will use twin engine arrangement using some new, larger, as yet unrevealed engine that is still under development and not yet flight ready, or at least not ready to push this aircraft’s envelope suitably for the flight development purposes.

Given china’s revealed plans to develop very large twin jet commercial airliners, it stands to reason that that some engine core larger than WS-10 or WS-15’s would be under development, which could power larger supersonic jets, and also form the basis of a very large high bypass turbofan for very large commercial jets
Do you think using two (very) high bypass ratio engines for combat aircraft make any sense? Why not just mount machine guns on C-919 wings and be done with it?

Considering it's only been three months since the reveal, I have to say they are doing a much better job of setting the record straight compared to the J-20. Credit where it's due, I guess.

Now that NGAD budget hangs in the balance J-20 will be dominant fighter again.

After PLAAF pilots roughed up some allied pilots a little bit with "unprofessional flying".

At this point USAF is like the boy who cried wolf. Papa DOGE is not gonna trust them anymore.

I suspect the awkward triple engine arrangement is for development purposes only, the intended configuration for production aircraft would be more space efficient twin engine, using a new, larger, as yet unrevealed low bypass engine. Maybe the new engine will be share core component with a new very large high bypass turbofan that is likely being developed for the recently announced Comac 939 very large twin jet.

Utter nonsense. To go from a triple engine setup to two would change the aerodynamics and internal plumbing so much that you might as well restart with a completely new design.

Getting rid of that awkward inlet on top would be a welcoming improvement but I seriously doubt it. Going from 3 to 2 engines would be too significant of a change that would require a major redesign.
