@sutton999

I haven't suggested hypersonic, just TBCC ramjet. Mach 3.5-4 if I have to?

Again stop this nonsense and stick to reality! ... read through the thread - even if it's tedious!

There are enough clues and to be honest I find it arrogant and presumptuous that you dismiss guys here as unreliable and who are just "relaying Weibo/Guancha PLA gossipers" and "come up with some explanation with which their common sense is comfortable" but who have achieved the highest level of reliability for years and now you think think that after 5 minutes of Google searching for colorful, at best vaguely similar pictures and diagrams, you "have a revelation"!

In fact, it's exactly the opposite: you make up rubbish just because it fits your world view, without any factual basis, based at best on "wishful thinking" and false deductions. You even ignore statements from insiders, from the Designer or other chief designer at CAC and brush them aside as irrelevant because they simply don't fit into your dream world of a hyper fighter that surpasses everything!

So, wake up and stop with the nonsense. Everything else will be deleted.

I have to admit, it is precisely the trend exemplified by Elon and "X" that is bothering me the most at the moment: everyone thinks they can write anything, even have to, and every statement, no matter how idiotic, is equated in the spirit of freedom of expression with being just as relevant or correct as the statements of insiders, reliable posters or even experts on the subject!

Enough of that.

FAXX is not faster than NGAD, the Navy also doesn't have enough funding to move the program forward

Well, it is by very nature. It's less focused on technology that doesn't exist yet, like the already mentioned NGAP, while also not having been shelved for almost a year like NGAD.

Most of the F/A-XXs funding is covered via special access programs.

It's incredibly naive to think, that with all the China-Hawks in the Trump administration and the public appearance of chinese next generation fighters, the new administration wouldn't increase funding for the domestic next generation efforts. Compared to what the Columbias, Fords, Sentinels and Raiders ate up in terms of money, NGAD and especially F/A-XX will be peanuts. Even when we take into consideration that US contractors rip off the DoD like they always do.

Rest assured J-36 is not hypersonic or high supersonic, >mach 3.5. At most it can possibly top out around mach 3 at high altitude if it comes with VCE or TBCC combined cycle engine. More important if it can supercruise and turn above mach 2 that would be an amazing advantage.

Yes China has repeated several test flights of TBCC and RBCC combined cycle engine powered aircraft since 2019. These were officially disclosed but disclosed as technology demonstrator engines for future SSTO TSTO craft. They are unlikely to be for 6th gen fighter platforms.

It makes no sense to have a manned hypersonic aircraft. Get it through your heads. Manned is in many cases a disadvantage. Certainly for hypersonic combat aircraft, it would perform far better as unmanned if nothing more than not having to cater to supporting human life onboard.

If you said hypersonic or high supersonic drones are part of the future air combat suite of platforms, there is absolutely a utility there. Fighters do need some level of maneuverability. Is it better to have a mach 5 capable J-xx or a mach 5 capable unmanned missile truck? Provided you can design a hypersonic aircraft release a payload (oh China's done that in 2021 you say USA?) it's better having the UAV perform that role.

6th gen Chinese side we're going to see the most interesting stuff be assorted unmanned platforms. These two manned platforms are residues of the previous eras with of course certain roles that require pilots or are better with pilot decision making. We're already at the helm of software and computing power being able to fight entire air wars autonomously. The piloted platforms of these future generations will often be only piloted as a redundancy.
