Guys, I’m so hyped these days! Back in 2017, I replied to a question on Zhihu about the rumor that Taiwan might buy 210 F-35s. I said, even if the deal was real, based on the timeline, deliveries wouldn’t happen until after 2030. And I optimistically guessed that by then, the next-gen fighter after the J-20 would probably have made its first flight.

Well, Chinese aviation engineers just showed me with real actions that my so-called “optimistic estimate” wasn’t optimistic enough!

Do we know if he had a good/closer look at the plane or also just from below during flyby?
He knew it had 3 engines and an intake on top, and he knew this quite a while before the maiden flight. Ayi heard it was 3 engine from somewhere but didn't know where the 3rd intake was and he asked Yankee at Zhuhai in November and Yankee subtly told him it was on top.

You think J-20 first flight is 2017??? 2011 more like. It was well known at that point.

You misunderstood him.

He's referring to an interaction that he had with someone on Zhihu (Chinese counterpart to Quora) in 2017 that "had the Wanwanese decided to procure F-35s that would only be available to them by 2030, China would've already had her next-gen fighters (i.e. the J-36 and J-XDS as we know them now) took to the skies for the first time.
