Hey Mirage, what's up with this? Argentina going to retire it's 16(?) Mirage jets this fall? That would leave the airforce really thinned out. Hopefully that provides some funds for a follow on type.

Also, the 5 C-130H are reported as currently being upgraded with new avionics.

Mirage fighters in November, as budget constraints force the government to make cuts to its inventory.

Pictures have surfaced of the Argentine Mirages’ participating in a retirement ceremony observed by air force chief Brig Gen Miguel Callejos, although the fleet will remain in service for a further three months.

The decommissioning of the Mirages will leave Buenos Aires with a capability gap, although Uruguayan media reports that a replacement will be sought, subject to funding availability.

The air force’s fleet consists of eight Mirage IIIs, four Mirage 5s and four Mirage 5-derived Israel Aerospace Industries Neshers, Flightglobal’s Fleets Analyzer database shows. ...[/URL]

Yes, that is true. The aircraft are already “retired” and not in front line service. There are only about five aircraft that are air worthy. A very sad state of affairs indeed.

The aircraft were scheduled for retirement in 2008, and then extended to 2010 then we were all told that a new fighter would be operational by 2014. Well we are well into 2015 and there is still no replacement. What about the Mirages, well five +/- are operational (zero combat value) and the rest are waiting for the decommission ceremony (hopefully they will fly).

That basically leaves the A-4AR as the only combat aircraft in inventory. Of the original 36 (32 A-4Ar and 4 trainers) only 3 trainers and 23 operational aircraft remain. 3 have had accidents and 6 are non-operational, waiting parts

Here is a video containing three sections. The first of an older A-4C disintegrating in flight; the second of an A-4AR losing an auxiliary external tank and the tip of the starboard wing and the third is of the crashed A-4AR trainer picture in the post above:

So is it correct that 18 "original" IA-63 are still in service? And then 40 more modern variants awaiting introduction?
I wasn't aware of those before. On wiki I found there's AT-63 "Phase 2" and "Phase 3" variants. What are those 40 mentioned by you?

CZ is a strategic partner in Peru of FAME in the assembly of 9mm pistols

sNsFLON.jpg

(Defensa.com) CZ (Ceska Zbrojovka) factory in the Czech Republic, won the highest rating in Program Strategic Partner of the Factory of Arms and Munitions of the Army of Peru to implement an assembly line and manufacturing 9x19 mm guns. So far it is unknown whether his offer, whose investment amount was not disclosed, has already been approved by the Board of FAME and when signing the respective agreement was made. Despite the scarcity of information, could be the P09 pistol, made of high strength polymer, with a length of 205 mm., 115 barrel (4.7 ") and weight of 840 grams. Its effective range is 50 m.

FAME launched in early June a technical requirement in the form of public tender to select a strategic partner to mount an assembly line 9mm pistols., To access and penetrate the domestic captive market. The extremely complex and unclear process integrated basis, indicated that FAME aims to achieve a joint venture agreement, whereby the member must fully assume financial investment (as collateral presenting a letter performance bond equivalent to 10 percent supply) throughout the life of society (estimated at 15 years) and that the line of manufacturing and assembly shall be mounted to nine months of the signing of the respective contract, provided, among others, the production component National parties is 20 percent minimum and to be produced in days of 8 hours, not less than 50 guns. Technology transfer should include, among others, the actual ability to build guns for domestic and foreign markets and the know-how acquired, so that, once the association can assemble and manufacture guns as well as obtain international certifications .

A review of the bidding rules, which were not accompanied by any market research or financial report makes clear that the potential market of FAME is limited to about 200 or 300 units per year for the Armed Forces, for the National Superintendency of Control Security Services, Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives for Civil Use (SUCAMEC) expressly prohibits the use of weapons of 9 mm. by civilians and the Ministry of Interior (MININTER) currently has an ongoing international process, in the form government to government, in order to acquire an initial batch of 28,700 9mm pistols. for an approximate amount of $ 15 million for the National Police, which will be manufactured and supplied directly by the winning country.

The 40 airframes that are under construction are the Phase 2. The phase three is a single seat version as a designated strike aircraft. At the current rate of aircraft acquisition the Phase three will end up being the fighter force. :(
