Interesting.

Any links to any kind of article for this yet?

I am going to be very interested in seeing their rational of it is true. I would have expected that they could get the best deal on the JF-17s...but if they decide to go Kfir instead, seeing and understanding their justification behind it will be enlightening on Argentina's underlying situation.
Several announcements for 18

The Israelis are unlikely to sell either. Or may be the Israeli really want to pay back the Brits for supporting the Iran nuclear deal. But Kfir will be easier to integrate into their force structure considering they already operate Mirage and Nesher.

I is so very interesting that this rumor surfaced. I was just talk the other day with my cousin in the defense ministry. About this and I was waiting to get the first jump. However my brothers at SDF are on the ball in the rumor mill.

Yes it is true that the JF-17 has been removed as a contender. And that the government is seriously pursuing the Kfir, block 60 with the ASEA radar. Whether it come to fruition or not is a different story and as Shen pointed out the main reason is the quick assimilation of the Mirage/Kfir aircraft into service due to familiarity with the airframe.

One rumor I have been trying to verify is that the Ministry of defense does not want to have any US components, which mean that they have requested the integration of the RD-33 (SMR-95) engine. A similar concept as with the Nammer design. The RD-33 is small than the J-79 from the Phantom.

Thanks Mirage.

The rumor of re-engine with RD-33 is a bit worrying. Compare the dimension of RD-33 with J-79, RD-33 is much shorter but slightly wider than J-79. Airframe change may be necessary for the engine swap. That could be expensive. The history of adapting a fighter to an engine it wasn't designed for is not very good. British Spey Phantom for example

Another An-158 was delivered to Cubana de Aviacion
Russian Aviaton » Thursday July 30, 2015 15:31 MSK

On June 6th 2015 another An-158 short-haul aircraft was delivered to Cubana de Aviacion (Cuba). This is the sixth jet of the type delivered to the customer by Ilyushin Finance & Co. (IFC) leasing company, the lessor’s press-service reports.

«Deliveries of the aircraft to Cuba were started in 2013 under a purchase agreement between IFC and South American Aircraft Leasing (SAAL, Panama), which finances leasing of the aircraft for the Cuban carrier. Delivery of the sixth An-158 jet finalized implementation of the contract by IFC, the company explained.

Besides An-158 jets, since 2005 IFC has already delivered 8 Russian-produced aircraft to Cuba, including 4 Tu-204 medium-haul aircraft (passenger and cargo versions) and 4

long-haul airliners. Thus the total number of aircraft delivered to Cuba by IFC is 14 ones. All the jets were delivered under the governmental program for financial support (guarantees) of export of hi-tech industrial products. These guarantees are provided by the government to banks, which grant credits to buyers of Russian products. Roseksimbank (subsidiary of Vnesheconombank, which specializes on financial support of Russian exports) is financing these deals, IFC noted.

An-158 is able to carry up to 99 passengers; it was derived from An-148 jet having a passenger capacity of 75 persons. An-148s are manufactured in Voronezh, while the final assembly of An-158 jets is carried out in Kiev by Antonov State Enterprise. The An-148/158 Family jets are manufactured in close cooperation between Russian and Ukrainian enterprises. Up to 65% of components of each jet are produced by Russian enterprises (including the enterprises of Rostec State Corporation), that is why these jets are part of the program for financing of exports.

An-158 has a range of 2500 km and maximum flight speed of 870 km/h. The unique feature of An-158 is its unique aerodynamic configuration – “high-wing aircraft”. The high-wing position allows operating the jet from unpaved runways located in hard-to-reach regions. An-148/158 jets have been certified by the Interstate Aviation Committee in accordance with JAR-25 harmonized with European CS-25 and US FAR-25. Since the start of deliveries of indigenous aircraft to Cuba an MRO center was established there for servicing Il-96 and Tu-204 aircraft. The corresponding agreement for maintaining airworthiness of An-158 jets was signed in 2014 by IFC Technik and Aviaimport S.A. This center will also be carrying out the post-sales support of An-158 jets. The center helps increase the appeal of Russian-produced aircraft to airlines of Latin America, IFC reminded.

The diameter is not such a concern (1,04 meters to 0,98 meters) since the fuselage is ample enough to handle the 0,06 meter of extra space. What worries me is the weight differential. The RD-33 weighs 1.055 kgs but the J-79 is 1.750 kg. The South Africa’s experienced some difficulty with the RD-33, since the lighter weight changes the aircrafts center of gravity. That is way the SMR-95 was developed. It has an extendable shaft (essentially adding length in the after burned section) to accommodate the differential length and the weight, thereby keeping the Center of gravity balanced.

I wonder if they will ask for Russia ejector seats as they have installed on the IA-63 Pampas?

I was wondering if there is any article confirming or reporting on Argentina saying no to the JF-17 and yes to the Kfir.

There is nothing official that has come out of the rejected JF-17 deal, other than the speculation that the terms of the production and tech transfer cost could not be negotiated even with food and other concessions. I do not believe that the anti-ship missile was the hang up, since that is not the domain of the Air Force, but that of the Navy, and the Navy wants to control any anti-shipping missile.

At the current time this is all speculation. Remember it is an election year in Argentina. Let the rumor fly........

jc385IZ.jpg

(Defensa.com) Having considered the possibility of replacing their obsolete aircraft A-37B, the Air Force of Colombia it has now decided to continue operating these aircraft. On 9 July and it subscribed a contract for the recovery of two of these aircraft will have, after the updating, with an additional 4,500 flight hours. The decision was taken after an assessment of the current cell, which has established compliance with the life of A-37B aircraft deployed in the Air Combat Command No. 3 located in Malambo.

The contract was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Juan Manuel Avila Palomino, representing the Ministry of National Defense and the Colombian Air Force, who acts as director of logistics processes of this force. It has a value of 4,097,999.976 Colombian pesos, about $ 1.4 million, and was awarded to the company SAS Integrated Engineering Services The process also submitted proposals Corporation Colombian Aeronautics Industry CIAC SA, the Union Temporal A1T-i Aircraft A-37 2015 Horizontal Aviation SAS

In 2009, the Air Force of Colombia had recycled six airframe A-37B discharged by the Chilean Air Force, being used to hone no less than 8 A-37B aircraft recovered with US-donated parts. By that time the FAC publicly announced the urgent need to replace these aircraft, which had a marked level of obsolescence, having completed 30 years of service, first arrived in 1978. These A-37B tuned later suffered a series of accidents, one of which, on the plane with register FAC 2162, left two flight officers of the institution.

Today is uncertain replacement of these old A-37B, as is also uncertain course to take the Colombian Air Force currently lacks adequate for the defense of national sovereignty means, he insists on the already venerable flying tired A-37B ground and keeps all the Kfir squadron, formed by recently modernized, but with more than 35 years of life and serious problems in aircraft engines.
