Soldiers from 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment head out on a normal routine patrol in the area of the Showal bazaar (26 Mar 11) in Afghanistan. The men from A Company are now able to step outside their patrol base and chat to the locals in an area that has seen significant change over the past six months. Through strong tactics and persistence the boys from 3 Para have restored a sense of security within the local area and have improved relations with the Afghan National Army (ANA), with whom they regularly patrol. HMS Bristol, the sole Type 82 Destroyer, which paid off to be a harbour training ship at Whale Island Portsmouth has been undergoing a refit at A&P on Tyneside to give her another ten years of useful service alongside. Here she is under tow for the return journey after completing restoration work, which involved reducing the mainmast to just a stump as it had extensive corrosion. She is due back in Portsmouth this week.

The British Military is doing an excellent job with very limited resources. Sad that the British Government has introduced drastic cuts. The Royal Navy is a "shadow" of what it was in the past, and many including Veterans are greatly disappointed!!

BRIZE NORTON, ENGLAND - APRIL 14: A Royal Air Force C-17 Globemaster comes into land at RAF Brize Norton on April 14, 2011 in Brize Norton, England. The Oxfordshire airbase and the surrounding village is gearing up to receive the bodies of fallen servicemen after the repatriation flights switch from RAF Lyneham in September. Oxfordshire county council has recently released a proposed route for the corteges to pass through Brize Norton village en route to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, however residents have raised concerns about the narrow lanes, speed humps and other traffic-calming devices.
