South Africa is both a member of the International Criminal Court and also hosting the BRICS summit this year that Putin is expected to attend, creating a possible conundrum.

Lots of accounts on X saying Milei is contemplating Argentina now joining BRICS as an 'inactive' member. I suppose this would at least preserve the option of becoming more active at a later date. Not sure how good a deal this would be for BRICS, however. Probably better than Pakistan though.

Since Milei is such a hypercapitalist, China should propose paying Argentina a couple hundred million for a military base lol

hmm, it was something they had to do in order to keep Brazil happy.

depending on how you look at this, it worked out for the best. The remaining 4 new entrants are all applications that China really supported. China dominates BRICS more than ever

Please educate me, how Brazil would be happy for Argentina to join BRISCS ? aren't they competitors for China's market?

They are both from the Latin Amerika region, so when in BRICS meetings they can support each other and extract better deals from other BRICS members instead of being overpowered by China and Russia. Wouldn't be surprised that Venezuela will also be invited and Brazil and Argentina as its main backers..

Good question is whether milei turn out to be a bolsonaro or yoon or meloni for china
Now that's interesting...what are the specific (non-regional) differences between those three stooges and what would be the implications of their differences for China?
