Among the points initialed statement, Rossi said "the evolution of KC 390 and Brazil's invitation to participate this year its first flight."

Argentina, through the Aircraft Factory Argentina (Fade), contributes to the production of some components of this program tactical transport aircraft, and last year, on the occasion of the presentation of the KC 390, one referring joint statement was signed a Strategic Alliance in the Aviation Industry (IAEA).

During the meeting the officials also discussed the creation of the South American Defense College (Esude) seeking regional training of civilian and military from a South American identity: "It was driven by Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador initiative, which was approved after three years of work, "Rossi said and stated that" April 17 will be launched in Quito, at the headquarters of UNASUR 'Nestor Kirchner' ". The uncertain future of the framework agreement signed between Brazil and Argentina with a view to the provision of Gripen

dxlyKGg.jpg

(Defensa.com) Although the defense ministers of Brazil, Jaques Wagner, and Argentina, Agustín Rossi (this on the run as presidential candidate for the ruling party) signed a memorandum, pompously called "Declaration for Democracy and Peace" within which points to the possibility that Argentina could acquire up to 24 Gripen NG assembled in Brazilian territory, plus reiterated Argentina's "interest" in incorporating six KC 390, the chances of actual realization are doubted therefore ruling as Opponents of both countries.

The specifics of the reality show that the UK and its closest allies would not allow the Argentine government to deliver next-generation fighters in a project in which British and next to that country firms are party providers or consultants. In fact, as with Israel in the case of Kfir months offered the Air Force Argentina whose actual operation on combat aircraft today would not reach a dozen units- the UK and have indicated their dissatisfaction Brazilian for these efforts. In this regard are notorious multiple interest between the two countries, including at the level of defense and security, being of British origin many ships and helicopters of the Brazilian Navy, overlooking the program aimed at providing new frigates Brazil (Prosuper) has received offers from BAE, and has incorporated the new ocean patrol Amazonas class from the same supplier.

Instead, the virtual current strategic partners path Argentina, Kirchner continue in power, are and will be China and Russia (the President will visit Moscow on 22 and 23 April, invited by Vladimir Putin on an official tour that given after the trip made by the president to Argentina in July last year and reflects "the excellent bilateral relations"), together with some like-minded nations, whose military factories Argentina has begun to turn, while themselves known abject prostration . It is notorious for FADEA, which has been neglected in much not only mass production of new IA 63 "Pampa", but major maintenance and modernization of the A-58 Pucara, including Uruguayans, stopped by and said management lack of vital components accordingly.

Marking further that circumstance, the FAA has painted some of his Tucano air superiority gray color, like almost dismissing the Pucara and the naval situation nor is promisoria- comparatively more available in the fleet of Naval Aviation Uruguayan and further Chile than in Argentina- having never received the vaunted Super Etendart French, which, arguably it could maintain.

Regarding Gripen, and despite the leading role in the program will Embraer, SAAB aims to concentrate both future facilities in Sao Bernardo do Campo, as in its local partner level structures (Akaer) and other companies integrated project Local, as AEL on Mectron avionics and missiles, many of the components or optional JAS-39 NG Brazil, as for the character provider Fade KC-390 can weigh in favor of the Argentine Gripen.

Moreover, while negotiations continue, any ruling defeat in parliamentary elections or even a worsening of the Brazilian political crisis, would not rave to continue in this thesis changes, remembering that for much less, the US vetoed the sale of the Super Tucano to Venezuela and Marsh Aviation sanctioned by providing some type of modernization Venezuelans Bronco.

Well, as a citizen of the American hemisphere, I would rather see a Brazilian Gripen solution for Argentina...but that would also be to put all political considerations aside.

Which I cannot do.

Simply stated, I (and I believe most Americans who know the history and situation) do not trust the current Argentine government. We know that the British do not...because of the earlier War and continued negative discourse over the Falklands. The British have no intention of ever giving into a government like the current one in Argentina, and it will take many more decades for that mistrust to be overcome, and then only through a change in their attitude of long standing..

The US will generally side with the UK, for the same reasons...and other governments in South and Central America feel the same way.

Now...there are some governments who are willing to support Argentina in their position, and the current Argentine government is therefore making overtures toward them...but those nations are not doing so because they have any true feeling for Argentina IMHO...but mainly because they see Argentina as a convenient lever against the US, UK, and their partners.

I put nations like Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, and China in that category.

Of all of them, China probably has the most sincere interest in increasing pure economic ties and probably has the best chance of delivering newer military aircraft to Argentina.

Then again, with recent economic decisions that have favored China in the UK, it may also turn the opportunity for the JKF-17s to Argentina sour.

Would China risk their more recent improvements economically with the UK over JF-17s for Argentina?

Time will tell

Well Jeff you did it again. You took the words out of my mouth…….

Things will eventually change in Argentina and hopefully the people will realize that these current ilk of socialists are a bunch of loons. During the 1990s the Argentine government made strides to bury the hatchet and move forward. President Clinton agreed to the sale of 36 A-4Ar to Argentina and declared that it had non-NATO ally status, due to assistance in Bosnia and Gulf War 1. In order for things to improve Argentina needs to get rid of Cristina and her cronies, the economy needs to improve and people be allowed engaging in free commerce.

Because when the economy is running well (as in the mid-1990s) then the distracting saber rattling does not occur.

z4m01Tq.jpg

(Defensa.com) The preparation on the Modernization of Ship Airfield (NAE) "São Paulo" Technical Adjustment, was signed by the Director General of the Navy Material (DGMM), Fleet Admiral Luiz Guilherme Sá of Gusmão- representing the Ministry of Defense of Brazil and the Director General of Armaments (DGA), Laurent Collet-Billon, representing the Ministry of Defense of France in Paris on March 27.

This bilateral partnership aims, among others, assisting in the preparation of project design and feasibility study for the modernization of aircraft carrier "São Paulo", especially in the power generation and power distribution; diesel- electric propulsion, generating steam catapults; and general arrangement.

The future of modernization of aircraft carrier "São Paulo", points beyond the scope of the life of that vessel, the maintenance of knowledge in the operation of the onboard aviation, mainly fixed wing and is used as the core of Naval Forces, becoming the primary means of implementing the Maritime Task Control Area. The operation of the aerodrome vessel, acquired in 2000 has not been as intense and regular that the Navy had planned during these 15 years, with long periods of inactivity and some accidents and incidents.

Nuclep delivers two other sections of the new Brazilian submarine ICN

zjKvahI.jpg

(Defensa.com) Heavy Equipments Nuclebras SA - CORE gave Itaguaí Construções Navais / ICN in the unit Structural Steel Fabrications (UFEM), two more sections of the first Brazilian submarine (SBR-1) built in partnership with France. The team will join the parts of the town and delivered earlier this year, ensuring the construction schedule of these boats.

For the industrial director of the state, Liberal Zanelatto, the program allows Brazil to join a select group of countries with technology for the construction of submarines, including nuclear-powered, defined as critical to the defense area. With the acquired technology during this process, the country could develop new projects in the future, depending on your needs. The Brazilian Submarine Development Program (PROSUB) sits is the association of the Brazilian government with France -DCNS- for the construction of four conventional submarines and other nuclear-powered Scorpene class based. The first three conventional already under construction and the first sheet of SBR-3 was cut into Nuclep last January.

A Brazilian prosecutor investigates the acquisition of the Gripen program

dxlyKGg.jpg

(defensa.com) Brazilian Anselmo Lopes prosecutor is investigating a possible case of irregularities in the program of the Brazilian Air Force that led to the choice of the Gripen fighter aircraft. Prosecutors said he is developing a civil and criminal investigation that seeks to discern any irregularities, as recorded by Reuters. The prosecutor has requested documentation, both the Swedish company Saab and the Brazilian Air Force, including copies of contracts, financial reports and emails, the review will take at least a year. According to this office, the origin of the research is the difference in $ 900 million between supply conducted by the manufacturer Saab in 2009 and the final price agreed in October last year reached 5,400 million.

kZvZfrG.jpg

The Brazilian Air Force through an official statement denied the existence of any irregularities in the acquisition and has been willing to cooperate in the investigation. The Air Force also argued that this price difference is due to several reasons. First fluctuations in exchange rates, second for having made some additions to the original contract and finally to include two novel technical aspects that were not initially contemplated.

The first of these is to include flight simulators and the second is the choice of so-called Wide-Area Discplay (WAD), a display of data in large cab to the Brazilian Air Force decided to include in configuration of the aircraft. The WAD will be manufactured in Brazil by AEL Sistemas, a subsidiary of Israel's Elbit Systems based in Porto Alegre.

As I understand it, this SBR-1 is the first of three conventional, diesel electric boats being built in Brazil. This article is a little confusing to me because it seems to say that there will be four conventional subs.

SBR-1 has actually been under construction since 2010, and Brazil says that it is scheduled for delivery in 2018.

Now, does delivery mean hand over...or does it mean commissioned? I bet it means hand over.

The SN-BR project, which will produce Brazil's first nuclear submarine, is still in the design phase I believe. It's not slated for delivery until the mid-2020s...ten or more years from now.,

But, all in all, Brazil is taking some strong steps with its defense industry and forces. It is pretty clear to me that Brazil intends to be the leading regional military power in South America and will field one or two aircraft carriers, very modern and capable diesel-electric subs and nuclear attack submarines.

Time will tell if all of that comes about.

Hello Jeff,

Is the article is not clear, but from my reading on this subject there will be four conventional submarines and one nuclear (in the future). This article mentions that parts for the hull and other sections are being handed off for assembly.

A toast of Grenache to new submarines
