Boston Terror Attack

It goes to prove yet again the new threat is from the "lone wolf" or in this case, "isolated wolf pack" type of terrorists. Hopefully the brothers are the real deal and with them no longer at large that's the end of things.

On the other note, this case goes to prove the value of all those CCTVs now dotted the metropolis around the world, because without them the brothers might actually got away and nigh impossible to get caught. Human-rights advocates against these "eyes in the sky" / "big brother" / "1984-ish" stuff will find their case ever more weakened after this. People living in metropolis will generally willing to forgo a certain degree of privacy in the exchange of safety.

But, for Muslims in the US they're bracing against another stormy days after this...

I can only say, excellent job US, and Boston, all the way, from the moment of management of the explosions to this final moment of truth. Their organization, efficiency is classic and inspirational for law enforcements worldwide to learn to how to deal with these types of threat. I also say, for the first time, excellent coverage of the media. Neither were they late to the scene(although sometimes CNN is a bit slow), and nor did they seem to have done anything which would jeapordize the entire operation. Of course the public seemed very complaint too.

Overall, Boston Strong!

I really think how Boston handled everything is exceptional, efficient, they truly set an example for the rest of the world to learn.

It's only a wonder if China or the rest of the world can pull off handling of a case as similar to this as efficient, effective, or to the standards that Boston had demonstrated. The entire operation is massive, and within an urban setting it's very hard to contain as it is. I let alone myself, can't guarantee already that the VPD, RCMP, could do quite the job Bostonians did. Even for the HKPD, while I know they have experiences with armed bank robberies, I don't think they have experiences handling manhunt to this scale.

Finally of course how would China handled it? Would they have done it as well as the Bostonians? Or would they fall short somewhere? Or would they have a varied approach that is effective and for others to learn from? And of course another question would be the population density. And of course sadly I do think if China had pulled off a curfew/lockdown or curfew, random bashers or biased human rights activists and groups and critics would call out on China as abusing police power and establishing martial law.

And from this incident, I sort of concluded China bashers = America's version of Alex Jones

Overall close to flawless execution all around. The media on the other hand must execute flawlessly or you endanger this poor guy. Salah Eddin Barhoum, wrongfully labelled as Boston blasts suspect, says will not feel safe until bombers are caught.

Teen 'fearful' after portrayal as US bomber
Salah Eddin Barhoum, wrongfully labelled as Boston blasts suspect, says will not feel safe until bombers are caught.

A teenager says he is scared to go outside after he was portrayed on the internet and on the front page of the New York Post as connected to the deadly Boston Marathon bombings.

Photos of Salah Eddin Barhoum, 17, and friend Yassine Zaime were posted on websites whose users have been scouring marathon-finish-line photos for suspects.

The two were also on the Post's front Thursday with the headline: "Bag men: Feds seek these two pictured at Boston Marathon."

The Post reported later on Thursday that the pair were not considered suspects, and the FBI has since identified two other men as suspects in Monday's bombings, which killed three people and injured more than 180.

But Barhoum, a track runner at Revere High School, said he was convinced some would blame him for the bombings, no matter what.

He said he was so fearful on Thursday that he ran back to the high school after a track meet when he saw a man in a car staring at him, talking into a phone.

Barhoum's father, El Houssein Barhoum, who moved his family from Morocco five years ago, said he was worried his son would be shot and fears for his wife and two young daughters.

He said he could not go to his job as a baker in Boston.

In a statement, Col Allan, New York Post editor, said: "We stand by our story. The image was emailed to law enforcement agencies yesterday afternoon seeking information about these men, as our story reported. We did not identify them as suspects.''

The photos show Barhoum with a black Nike athletic bag, wearing a blue and black track suit.

Zaime is carrying a black backpack, wearing a white cap and black track clothes.

Men with bags at the marathon have been a focus of Internet scrutiny, because officials believe that is how the bombers carried in the explosives.

Barhoum said there are only two reasons he has been labelled a suspect: His bag and his brown skin.

In running gear

Barhoum said he was at the marathon with Zaime, a friend from the running club, hoping to run a portion of it behind the official field. They took the subway, and Barhoum's bag was for his running gear.

But the pair got the address wrong and ended up at the finish line instead of where they wanted to start the race. Barhoum said they decided to stick around to see the top runners, then left.

Barhoum said that late on Wednesday, friends started flagging the online photos and commenters started their work.

He said he was so upset, he visited police early on Thursday to clear his name. He said they advised him to restrict access to his Facebook account.

When the Post published the photo later on Thursday, a bad situation got worse, Barhoum said.

"It hurts because the person who did it must be happy right now, looking at the people who are getting blamed,'' he said. "And I'm one of them.''

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is also concerned about the online manhunt.

Rick DesLauriers, FBI chief in Boston, made clear his frustration at the proliferation of amateur sleuthing that filled the vacuum of information from real investigators until Thursday.

Unveiling photos and videos of two suspects with black backpacks, one of whom was seen placing a bag at the scene of one of the blasts, he said: "These images should be the only ones ... that the public should view to assist us.

"Other photos should not be deemed credible. They unnecessarily divert the public's attention in the wrong direction and create undue work for vital law enforcement resources."

But still what has America ever did to the Chechens?

Chechen fighters are engaged in the Syrian conflict. The Chechen brigade was and is one of the most effective of the groups. The conflicts against the Russians militarised a good portion of the population. From the days of the Csar through USSR the Russians have pressed the Chechen peoples. Particularly in the last decades the Russians created a ready made supply of troops to be converted into Jihad. The Chechen conflict began as a nationalist movement but ignored by the world and not aided by any one save islamist groups. Four of the 911 pilots were recruited original for the Chechen conflict.

At this point it is still hard to tell if these guys were lonewolf. Even if these were lonewolf the acts could still have been encouraged by Jihadist leaders. The elder brother is reported to have posted a islamist video on his youtube account The blackflag from Korisan.
What ever the motive we may find out soon as the younger brother is at this time still alive.
But this is all conjecture, and even they are not islamist cut rather individuals more along the lines of the North Hollywood Bank shooters, the pair are likely to be used by islamist as recruiting tools.
In this Case out side of Boston CCTV was not a factor the brothers were not picked up until they started a crime spree. Holding up a 711 killing a police officer, stealing his cruiser, carjacking and more. Basicly they healed up a big sign that read "we'er over here". In the next weeks we will likely see a lot of missinformation walked back, cut given the third individual who was released as unrelated was made to strip before being taken in, I think the suicide vest may have been for real.

I would be scared shitless too if I were him. It's like being accused of being Bin Laden. And also given how many irrational people out there, his life was definitely in danger until the recent identifications of those 2 Chechnyans

One question needing to be answered is what line of hardware they had. Massachusetts has strict gun laws its a very blue state and modern sporting rifles are banned and have been for a long time. Did they make their explosives or were they using ready made stuff. Despite what some of our european and asian readers may think its not easy or cheap to get that stuff in the US and its even harder here in Massachusetts. So if they did buy it out of state where did they get the cash?

You got a point there. I think they had a handler through out their operation until they were discovered wanted by the FBI on television did their handler pulled out all bank transactions stops in their names or sir names. I think that is why they were desperate for cash that they robbed the 7-11 store and car jack a vehicle trying to get away.

You DO know that's something nobody - with the exception of the terrorists - wants to find out for real, right?

Though I kinda worry for the Chinese and HK people in this context, because we just lack the "keep calm and carry on" mentality, way too easy succumb to panic; and newspapers in HK loves something like that because "fear sells", which they'd run stories and speculations to further stokes fear amongst the population, sells more newspapers and reap profit under the guise of "freedom of press".

large number of mosque in the west are turning into jihadist recruiting center. a lot of mullah using the freedom of speech to spread jihadist ideology.
I recall during the 90's an algerian military officer target by algerian salafist flee to britain, were shock to discover radical islamist group has taken complete control east london mosque, told the police that they are recruiting for terrorist.but to his surprise, the police officer told him that in uk (or any western countries) extremist is not crime!
this is problem, most western countries specially the liberal and the leftist knew nothing about culture and religion as an ideological force,(most of left and liberal are nothing more than a social fascist) but given radical muslim group freedom of speech, you are basically written your own death warrant.
one can not treat it just another law and order problem, you got charge them aside for mass murder, but also treason, after all they pledge to defend america, that's include strip of Us citizen and deportation.

Here is a odd on if true. Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev was in a account from his mother interviewed by the FBI possibly at the behest of the Russian FSB. The interview took place two years ago. Their are now reports of three more arrest in Massachusetts apparently less eventfull.
