Actually that is the most stupid representation of actual history... I switch off the TV, pull that DVD out and threw it away after around half the show... and is pretty amazed at my own will to watch that nonsence show for around 1 hour.

Sorry, that is just my point of view and not trying to sound too harsh.

ROTK plays around with historical facts a bit as well. IIRC, the way the naval battle actually happened was Huang Gai pretended to surrender, and the ships he sent to, "defect," were actually fire ships.

hm...i've yet to see it. I like some parts of RC1, but not the boring parts....especially when the dude (i forgot his name) stops the army practicing just to hear some lil kid play his musical instrument. and also where zhu ge liang was playing some musical instruments to communicate to the other general, which was artistic in how they showed it but ridiculous.....in such a war-like storyline.

The tiger hunting while also slow, does convey the sense of the King finding himself and emerging from the shadow of his father and older brother.

But its not really 'stand out', I mean you ask some random person they wouldn't immediately know its Chinese, they have to think about it.

Japanese are known for their samurai > swords .

What are Chinese known for? Its like their identity is spread out.....you have the olympics...then you have made in china items, china's dynasty's, communism. Theres no real standout figure....possibly because of the isolation during the Cold War. There wasn't anything that was fully representing the country and culture.
i agree with u to a certain extent
chinese culture have way too many symbols, indicating that the culture isn't compromised of just one thing, but many things

even dragon has many types in chinese myth.

and as for someone who mentioned rc2 being out of fact, that's very true

we don't see huang's scheme, and nor did cao cao escaped

i found it very hard to accept the bullshit ending in the beginning, because it doesnt make any sense if we really think about it, even for someone who doesn't know about the three kingdoms

but of course i had to accept it now...

and lastly here's the plot hole..."go back where u came from.."..so what happened to uniting china under han(liu's dream), and disposing cao cao from tyranny and upsurping?(sun's legacy)
these were quite mentioned in the first movie

and of course. if they brought caocao in cuffs back to luoyang or do him justice, then 3 kingdoms no longer became 3 kingdoms. but between eastern wu and western shu. that means one less to fight. and this means between shu and wu, referencing to zhl and chou yu's "we each serve our own leader"

and this would be the "normal course" of this altered story where cao cao gets captured

but instead they released him on purpose. and that's totally pointless. cuz now that's completely against what their grand strategies are trying to achieve.

it's now like they released him so they can group up and fight him again in the future.

in ro3k, guan yu's release is based on personal debt to cao cao. and he committed this action alone. so it's explanable.
but for the viceory chou yu, and the ruler, liu bei, sun quan, to be present to witness this, made no sense

red cliff 2 turned 3kingdoms into chinese lord of the rings.

the essence of this historical event cant be represented in movies, john woo missed the target by a thousand miles. of course he claims the movie to be better than the book.
the best part about the event isnt the actual battle, but what precedes and follows it. i think if you want to make a hollywood representation of a Chinese battle then Changping and Feishui are much better choices.

If the history of film from the large-scale point of view, this is not a qualified film, John Woo is not good at this kind of film shooting.
The film's war scenes very untrue, nothing fancy, almost become a martial arts film, but scenes of the film line-up and powerful, the film is said to have 150 thousand people participate in, really wasted.
It is most difficult to imagine is that Guan Yu is a well-known hero, he often rode his "red-rabbit" horse, brave enemy, but in the film, the actor who do not really know how to ride horse, only in the ground fighting, it is ridiculous.

Can any one direct me to any on line resources of chines history other than wikipedia?

No it will not make me any less critical of the current government of the Peoples Republic of China.

The one part that bothered me was that Zhou Yu hated Zhuge Liang, and tried to have him killed many times. The Shu Han and Wu "kingdoms" plotted against each other while they were suppose to help each other (KMT vs CCP?). The ending for the second part was terrible, Zhou Yu would have stabbed Kongming. I mean seriously when Zhou Yu died he looked up to the sky and said "God why did you create me and then create Zhuge Liang?" Zhou Yu knew that Shu Han would turn its attention to the Wus sooner or later. If I am asked to rate the movie, I will give it a 4/10 and that is me being generous.
