Banned threads, WHY!!!!

@Jura

You only been here since 2013. I've made far worse posts before you started here and was banned for years.

In all seriousness, I made that post because inactive mods allowed the troll to make troll threads. To fight the trolls, you must bring them down to your level and beat them with experience.

If mods allowed a thread called "China without Tibet and Xinjiang" up for weeks, why can I fight back with fire? Proof that Mods ignore blatant anti-China threads while quickly suppressing anti-US threads, until I intervened and help shut it down.

Not sure why siegecrossbow wanted to ban thread of "Trade War with China" neither I don't understand why Deino Brigadier also banned thread of "Is the US shooting itself in the foot by banning Huawei?" Follow a wrong decision doesn't make you right, Deino. Cool head?? The persons who involved in discussions have super cool head otherwise won't last 462 and 119 pages respectively. Compare with other threads of nasty name calling, those threads have great contributions and insightful discussions from different parties, and they are very good story to tell. If you think you should ban those two threads, you should ban all threads, tell me which one, with discussed more than 2 pages had better discussions than those 2. Very disappointed!!!! I think that is you both need to keep a cool head and not people contributed in those discussions. How much you contributed? YES, a BAN!!!!!

Pardon if I annoyed you, but I must admit I don't like your tone.

Our forum is normally a strictly military-related discussion group and by the concept of the owner political threads are not allowed.

As such I more than once noted, that IMO such politically infective threads should be banned right away.

If You don't like this and want to discuss - especially as it seems in such a way You act here, namely not decent, civilised and tampered - I MUST ask you to leave. Go, and search for a political forum, where you can bash other's opinions and spread your own.

By the way one additional note: The moderator team is desperately small, we beg for additional moderators since about two years, without any change. Also, I have a living outside of the SDF, I have a family and a quite stressing work, so it is not my duty to read each and every thread or even post, to check, which one is anti-China or Anti-whatever. I can only react to reports, made by members and if You don't report, how should I notice ??

Therefore to be annoyed that I closed these threads even without contributing is honestly said a lame argument, in fact it's pathetic.

I have a feeling that this thread will soon be closed too.

As said, this is a military forum and political discussion is not allowed. The trade war, though is a hot topic, is very political and easily leads to country bashing and hatred. It's not easy for the thread to last so long.

Further, I found that many new members are so hawkish, I don't know why!

There should be an Off topic section where these conversations can occur. Virtually every single forum has an Off topic section.
We have such off topic not unmoderated.

The function being to cool off not berate each other with political views.

There exists out side of our page totally unmoderated forums.
The internet is literally a wash with any form of politically oriented forum and site one can think of.
By joining this forum you made a choice to operate by the set rules of conduct. The topics we discuss walk a fine line and all have a degree of patriotism to their chosen nationality. In order to adhere to the intentions of the forums founders we must from time to time stop ourselves and discard our want to voice a pure opinion. To walk ourselves back to pure absolute fact.
Freedoms of speech exist, but not absolute freedoms. Just as yelling fire in a Theater is wrong, A Liable suit can end your financial future and the wrong words to the boss will get you fired. Sometimes the freedom of speech is the freedom to choose to bite your tongue.

Since the day I joined the first iteration of this forum I was coming here to learn not hash out policy.
Since that day I like many of our long term members have at times debated deleting my bookmark and walking away in disgust at the Fanboy appreciation threads of the day. Where in the war drums are beat and the worship of either Uncle sam’s beard or the Greatness of the Chinese Communist dynasty is healed aloft to the cow towing masses of adoring echo chamber.
I have seen outright conspiracy theory spouted as gospel truth enough to make X file’s Lone gunmen incredulous.
Claims disputed and debunked regurgitated months later as new revelation. Even once 9/11Truthers and Moon landings denial. <fun times!>
Pure propaganda hurled back and forth because India vs Pakistan, Russia vs China, Israel vs Syria, IS vs AQ, Israel vs Hezbollah, Godzilla vs King Kong, Israel vs Palestine, Russia vs Ukraine, Klingons vs Gorn, North Korea vs South Korea, the US vs China, Alien vs Predator, China vs Taiwan, F35 vs a flying banana, Hong Kong protests, Iran vs Saudi Arabia, Coke vs Pepsi, western culture vs Eastern culture, AK vs AR, Star Trek vs Star Wars, Suni vs Shia, the greatness of Communism... <despite the fact it’s failed universally and enacted reforms made by those few current “Communist states”, make me wonder if the contents Carl Marx grave is stuck in a spin cycle>, Russian Carriers constantly being just a few years away, SU57 being so superior that it’s a 12th gen fighter... and so much more.
Annals of racially charged bigotry stereotypes spouted because oh it’s against Europeans, Caucasias, whites, Anglos, WASPs so it’s okay... because they oppressed us or you can always tell this group from this other. Or they still deserve to suffer for this past action that was done in the last century, or whatever.

There have been times when I wanted to unload my own quite angry reply. Yet Many is the time I simply moved off to another topic. And if really bad have hit that report button.
Other times attempted correction if I felt that what was being said was more lack of fact.
And many is the time in this decade + of being here I have seen the moderator team step up and lock a thread because trying to troll a troll is like trying to put out a house fire by misting it with gasoline.
So we are and have been a moderated forum, Because the best way to put out a house fire is to call the fire department.

Given the shortage of moderators in this forum, you do not really want to open the flood gates. Off topic means basically non military related topics. The issue with all the new threads popping up when the related ones are locked is because it is a means to by pass the suspension. There are other forums in the universe that are unmoderated if people want to vent their views. The rules against political discussions is because the conversation typically degenerate very quickly.

I believe that certain rules have become outdated.
The world is not what it was five or even ten years ago, and not allowing certain domains of discusison on this forum given its userbase will likely prove more troublesome than otherwise.

Previously simple topics like economy, trade, and technology -- even consumer technology -- is now only one degree of separation away from high level geopolitics.

I think the question going forwards will inevitably be what kind of political discussion will be allowed. In some other forums it is normal for the predominant userbase to talk about politics in a pro-"their background" and anti-"opposing nation/adversary" manner, with the result that individuals from the "opposing nation/adversary" background tend to not particularly contribute.

Whether that would be detrimental or beneficial to the majority of SDF users is something worth considering.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

It's how things mostly work around here. Supporters of the "opposing nation/adversary" tend to silo themselves in their own threads/subforums, which isn't necessarily wrong. Personally, I don't feel they have much to "contribute" besides noise and bad faith arguments, and I'm sure the feeling's mutual.

Yeah, it sure is.
