All the big cities are pretty high now. Calgary just wasted several billion on a new light rail system that may never get built so need to recoup that money. Properties taxes gone up to 0.6% now I think, and they raise the assessed price of houses to generate the tax. A lot of people are getting their houses reassessed because it have no grounds on reality.

I mentioned before that it is a huge joke that they can spend so much money on this LRT that is non-existent.
In Toronto, I saw a gang of half a dozen people clearing snow on the LRT that is existent, but non-functioning
How can billions be spent with no returns?
I thought we had the superior democratic system in Canada, yet there is no anti-corruption purge?

The mayor and entire Council of Calgary is incompetent, not necessarily corrupt. The billions spend on the LRT is more moving utilities like water and power lines in downtown based on the ASSUMPTION of where the train may go. The moment the design is finalized everything they did to this point becomes pointless and might need to be reversed.

Reflecting upon the past 2 decades of PLA development, what do you think the PLA has done "wrong"? Whether it be an equipment directional mistake like the Zumwalt or a strategical one like US in Afghanistan

This question is for members that live in Hong Kong.

I have a HK birth certificate, but I don't have a HK ID card because I have not live there in a very long time. I downloaded the form and did some research on how to obtain the ID card. The procedure seems very simple. So simple that I think I might be missing something.

The form suggests that I don't need a Hong Kong address to apply. I just need to make an appointment, show up to present my birth certificate, and wait 10 working days.

Am I missing anything?

Can only give you an anecdotal story here. Also I don't live in HK...
Did you ever have one at all?
My mom and my aunt had ideas of travelling to HK/China more often and decided to get HK ID cards
My aunt had an old HK ID card (like 70's vintage, decades old), she was able to get a new one very quickly
My mom only had the old British colonial passport and they said it was not a valid form of ID, it took her like 2 or 3 trips before she gathered enough documentation to get a new HK ID.
My wife who had a more recent card (post handover) also got a new one very easily.
If you ever had one, it probably is that easy. You actually have to be eligible though.

I don't think you need an address to get it, but I think you might need one for correspondence.

In HK birth does not grant the natural right to live in HK, which means you'd probably need to still need to prove you are eligible based on the criteria. If you had your parents' ID, it might help since one of the criteria is one parent being an HK/Chinese national.

The difficultly my mom had was the proving the 7 years. To do this, she was getting school attendance records, but since all her records were so old, it took time to locate them and then deliver them. Since these were just vacation trips to HK, she couldn't always get this accomplished in one trip, thus it took a few trips over a few years.

Is this true? I wonder how come we hear so less about this.

Those state owned corps have to send more than 90% of profit to their provicial government as tax or production goal. Hence theres a joke about the smokers along payed the whole military budget in China. It do has lots of corruption and bureaucrat shit but it did not create secret billionaires. Maybe thats why it is not famous in west.
Ah, for those who invested in electric smoking things, those state owned corps pushed for the crack down of it in China cuz electric smoking dont have to pay 90% tax but normal 25%.
