TW artillery drill oopsie that set forest on fire got me curious, what is the state of PRC defoliage capabilities? TW has a lot dense forests in sparsely populated mountainous regions if post invasion enters an insurgency phase. I imagine that will make it difficult for PRC drones and there will be temptations to defoliate. From cursory research, doesn't seem like herbicides like Agent Orange are banned. I just never considered potential use of defoliants or fire in a TW scenario, nor that TW has 60% forest coverage which is almost double Vietnam in the 70s. I think white phosphorus was employed to burn forests in Nagorno Karabakh. What's the state of sensors that can detect bodies / equipment through canopy? Lidar?
? Feels like something that will tip toe close to warcrime territory, or certainly be portrayed as such. But I don't know legalities around accidentally razing half the island.
