I only mentioned the social credit system as a passing consideration for users in a comment of an AI product review. It definitely wasn't my focus.
But I see no reason pretend this isn't real or is some myth or fiction. Yes, it is iterative process, but so were market reforms (started in 1978, ongoing) and the gradual rollout of internet security policies (started in 1997, ongoing). To quote section one from this 2025 State Council proclamation, (Opinions of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council on Improving the Social Credit System):
"Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and thoroughly implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and the Second and Third Plenary Sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, we will uphold and strengthen the Party's leadership, adhere to the general principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, fully and accurately implement the new development philosophy, uphold government guidance, market-driven development, and social co-construction, promote a culture of integrity, integrate public and market credit information, ensure that credit rewards and punishments are reasonable and legal, and build a social credit system that covers all types of entities, has unified rules and regulations, and is jointly built, shared, and utilized. We will promote the deep integration of the social credit system with all aspects and links of economic and social development, and provide strong support for accelerating the construction of a unified national market, maintaining a fair and orderly competitive market order, and promoting high-quality development."
The reality of the Social Credit System is literally not up for debate. Anyone who thinks it is should go debate the State Council, not me.
