I’m pretty sure that you can also run it from Gulf States servers. Only issue is that Iran is targeting those…Impossible to Ban open source. Someone will just fork it, change a few weights and call it a new name.
Call it Trump-GPT and fleece the idiots with an IpO.Fork it, call it a different name and say you sanitized it. No more nefarious CCP influence!
From the perspective of the companies that are likely advocating this in the US (X/Grok, OpenAI) and starting their smear campaigns, the good is that it preserves their revenue streams as it will force (at US-based) companies to continue to come to them to use the models and pay for it. It also keeps their stock price high. What are the good or bads if they manage to ban Chinese models? Primarily for large s&p 500 companies since those are the only ones who can really afford the compute to run these giant models. Something like doing routine inspections on what their hosting so that even if someone touches up K3 and renames it “Trump Mind” they can still be caught? Will the ai companies actually be able to generate profit if their models are the only ones used? will the companies using their ai lose profit or just become less competitive due to the expense?
They could make exceptions for researchers. After all they can still use Chinese open source models to improve their own. From the perspective of the companies that are likely advocating this in the US (X/Grok, OpenAI) and starting their smear campaigns, the good is that it preserves their revenue streams as it will force (at US-based) companies to continue to come to them to use the models and pay for it. The bad is that it makes it so that US models don't have to compete in the US as hard. In the longrun, that makes those companies lazy, less competitive and they fail in the market outside the US when they do have to compete. It also makes it hard for US researchers to get access to these models, either to test them or to use them for other areas (e.g. university level basic research in the sciences) where they might not have budget.
What it also does is tells the rest of the world the US models are not competitive and they could (again) try to block your access to it. So indirectly, it drives usage to the Chinese models.
If that’s true then you are saying over 99% of the world(outside China apparently) is stupid as well since they all lag behind the US technologically. lol. I think that’s a generalization and the kind of answer stereotype people make about countries . Since if that was true then much of the world is even more stupid except China apparently lolI think I've answered this before. It's a combination of the 2 factors:
1. Great wealth generated by financial control created from America's victory in WWII. America is a finance superpower but finance is not intriniscally real; it is completely based on trust in your system and the power to defend it, just like the value of the USD.
2. That wealth is up for grabs in a population of relatively stupid people, making life extremely comfortable for someone who is not stupid. Someone who is an average tech worker in China getting yelled at by his manager to keep up is a superstar in both ability and work ethic in the US. He knows that raising his kids in the US, he barely needs to nudge them and they will be in the top 10%; push them and they're Ivy league. In China, with all the hard-working super competitive, super intelligent kids, he'd have to rake them over the coals everyday about their studies just to be average in school.
If China crumbles 1, then 2 falls with it. A population of many stupid people without a very strong ability to attract foreign talent is not globally competitive.
They really don't have anything else going for them; their cities aren't as modern as China's, they have way worse food than in China, they have way too much deadly crime (both from civilians and the police/ICE themselves), and the people there are becoming more and more xenophobic assholes from losing ground to China. They don't even really know how to have fun; spend some time in China's resorts and party venues and you realize America charging you $600 a person to walk in Disneyland in 95 degree weather getting in hour long lines and paying $35 for teeth-bustingly low effort turkey legs is just... hell. Just like Trump said; he's opening the gates of hell cus that's his house and his gates to open.
Damn…that’s a longer time than I thought, looking at Chinas rapid advancement in chips. But almost 10 years for them to be able to meet up globally demand is about to far fetched in my opinion . I believe they can achieve that much earlier .At the moment it seems like HBM, although its mostly everything chip related, probably 2035+ if we say everything goes perfectly (for china to serve everyone).
No! That's an illogical conclusion. I'm saying they are behind the US because the US drains their talent using their greed by offering far superior financial compensation and residency a society of easy wealth built through trading American freely printed fiat paper money for real foreign goods, which is only possible through exploitation of the US-centric global finance order that America set up at its height of power post WWII.If that’s true then you are saying over 99% of the world(outside China apparently) is stupid as well since they all lag behind the US technologically. lol. In my opinion , there’s no doubt the US will ban Chinese models from US soil and might even extend that ban to other allied countries . The US seees Chinas rise as a threat the more China advances so no bets are off the table. So you shouldn’t be surprise when this happens , since AI is so important for the future Industrial Revolution taking place and will shape the next great power politics .What are the good or bads if they manage to ban Chinese models? What’s there to stop people from downloading open source models? Are they gonna wall off the internet?
They can download them, but they still need a server to host them, especially now that models are often over terabytes in size, making self-hosting impossible for individual users.
