Android have the backing of Google and developers around the world contributing new knowledge, codes and supports for it. Huawei was a big contributor to Android before. Now, is this the same with Deepseek? Does High-Flyer have enough resources to continue to keep Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Basic Technology Research Co., Ltd. at the forefront of AI R&D? Does all these companies (chinese and foreign) now using Deepseek share their knowledge, contribute their code and supports to Deepseek like for Android? Android is an ecosystem and Deepseek, however popular it is now, is still just a very good AI Chatbot. If there is a Chinese company that can make something like/beat Android, it will probably be Huawei and its HarmonyOS.
It is true that a llm and operating system are very different. But if Deepseek maintains it's lead for 1-2 years I don't see many competitors left trying. We could very well see some of the six big startups fold.

Agree. But then again, I'm not sure HARMONYOSNEXT brings anything new or groundbreaking to the market that the incumbents don't already provide. Plus those 2 competitors are very entrenched. So will be hard for HarmonyOSNEXT to carve out a significant market for herself globally to be honest.. In fact Huawei will need to first conquer the Chinese Market first(which even in its home market will be hard to achieve) before even thinking of taking the battle abroad.
Deepseek advantage is that they were a pioneer who brought something new to the market that no other of their competitors had the time. In short their timing and product was perfect. Hence the rush and the Buzz this generated. Let's see how they will make use of this advantage since this will determine if they can keep growing and adapting to the market. This will be key in keeping ahead of the game and dominating the market. However they do have a good chance of doing that.

What lead for 1-2 years?

Nobody has any lead of not even 1 year. Not even half a year. IMO it's max 3 months.
The lead of OpenAI against everyone else

DeepSeek R1 is SOTA on open-source. Closed-source, o3 series from OpenAI beats everyone

o3 doesn't exist as of now, unless you are talking about o3-mini, which is a specialized model. Comparing o3-mini with R1 is comparing apples to oranges.

o1 pro > o3 mini high

o3 mini is garbage

proper o3 isnt availavle yet, not even for $200/mo users

tomorrow grok 3 comes out, Musk says 10x better than o3

Good catch, confused my model names. o1-pro indeed

Btw I don't pay too much attention to what Elon says. Really doubt that it's 10x better than o3
Well he trained it on 1 million H100s... but yes there is a point of diminshing returns and nonreasoning models already hit that scaling ceiling hence no gpt5, claude 4, etc

Supposedly he feed it every legal document, and entire pacer.gov etc

If Grok 3 lives up to hype, Lawyers are SOL starting next week, and now it makes sense why DOGE is firing IRS workers, Musk likely pitched to Trump that his Grok 3 AI can do the job better for cheaper and faster

I read that O3 is just O1 being run many times and the final answer is sampled from those multiple runs. So, its basically brute force instead of actual innovation.

I'm just curious, does anybody know how something like Deepseek searches the web? Does it use a browser underneath the hood like Baidu's or Google's?
If i had to take a guess they probably implemented multiple api to query services like wikipedia and other sorts of knowledge databanks.
You probably get a list of sources(at the bottom of each wikipedia article) from the response and then you just make a request to each source link and try to parse it. Then combine the data in one way or another.
