Armenia vs Azerbaijan (ongoing)

Hardly a conspiracy. That is what has been happening over the last couple years.

I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate to say it more as a fact since it was technically on the speculative side.

However, this point of view is likely how the Russians are seeing the situation. This was before the ceasefire was announced.

Medvedev about the situation in Karabakh.

One day, one of my colleagues from a fraternal country told me: “Well, I’m a stranger to you, you won’t accept me.” I answered what I had to: “We will judge not by biography, but by actions.” Then he lost the war, but strangely stayed in place. Then he decided to blame Russia for his mediocre defeat. Then he gave up part of the territory of his country. Then he decided to flirt with NATO, and his wife defiantly went to our enemies with cookies.

Russian peacekeepers killed in Nagorno-Karabakh – Moscow

A car carrying the servicemen came under small arms fire, the country’s Defense Ministry has said

A group of Russian peacekeepers was killed in Nagorno-Karabakh on Wednesday, when their vehicle came under small-arms fire, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.
The peacekeepers were returning to an observation post when their car was attacked by unknown assailants. All the servicemen inside the car were killed on the spot, the military said, without revealing the exact number of casualties.

Unsurprising, that Armenians is blaming Russia to bank on NATO while conveniently ignoring the fact their own PM basically announced that Nagorno-Karabakh was part of Azerbaijan less then 5 months ago. Iran said it recognizes it as Azerbaijani as well as the Russians because Armenia no longer has a claim to it. Even if Russia or Iran wanted to “diplomatically” intervene. They had little to no leverage over negotiations due to the PM statement. Then there is the other conspiracy that this was a plan by the pro-nato PM to force a realignment towards NATO.
Medvedev said the following on telegram yesterday:
One day, one of my colleagues from a fraternal country told me: “Well, I’m a stranger to you, you won’t accept me.” I answered what I had to: “We will judge not by biography, but by actions.” Then he lost the war, but strangely stayed in place. Guess what fate awaits him...
There's also no way NATO is going to help Armenia, Turkey would veto any support. They are really stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I don't really have alot of knowledge on the peculiarities of the conflict, but in the end what can one say?

In the end you have two ex-Soviet Republics with populations smaller than an average no name Chinese third tier city fighting over the remnants of Soviet ethnic policy. One happens to be bigger and stronger than the other and thus will do as it pleases.

Unlike Ukraine, where the geopolitical significance has granted it the patronage of a superpower and thus the most up to date weapons, Armenia is a landlocked state having had to put its faith on the unreliable patronage of a quickly declining regional power and a leadership that would rather squabble amongst itself rather than confront the reality the gate to their entire country is open.

Its sad state of affairs, especially for a people as ancient as the Armenians, but alas the significance of their struggle with Azerbaijan is commensurate to the geographical size of both respective countries. Just a fly speck on the globe.

First, Azerbaijan is establishing state writ over its own 'undisputed' territory from where thousands of non-Armenian ethnic groups were kicked out by force. This is literally the case where everyone thinks the good guys have won.

Second, the 'ancient' Armenian people have decided on their own will to depart being encouraged and fake+newsd by the Armenian govt.

Armenia has been led by an idiot who poked and provoked Azerbaijan, who called his bluff. He then alienated their one ally Russia to please NATO. In the end, Armenia lost all it's allies, the territories it illegally occupied, all due to incompetence of the present government there. Guess being ancient and being wise are not always correlated.

Don't forget for 30 years, Azerbaijan tried to resolve this through talks, but the rebel region stuck to it's maximalist positions and derailed all attempts to adhere to international law. Perhaps a lesson for Taiwan.
