Disinformation.

Except another lawsuit if the US government tries to ban TikTok again. Expect the US government to lose in court again.

We will find out soon. US congress is so bipartisan on anti-China bills that pretty anything with China on it will pass. Allowing Biden ability to Ban Chinese Apps is pretty much certain to pass. Whether Tik tok is banned or not ofcourse is still not certain as Tik tok could potentially be sold by Bytedance rather than getting banned. They tried to do exactly that when Trump tried to ban it. Thankfully Trump lost the election.

But the way Tiktok spying rhetoric is going in the US media, it is pretty much certain they will be either banned from US or potentially from all of app stores, or they will be forcefully sold by Bytedance to prevent such bans. One thing is for certain, no Chinese social media app will ever be allowed to be successful in the US.

Sure, right after the politicians quit carving out personal exemptions for themselves so they can get an edge on their domestic political opponents in reaching voters:

The platform store ban is not a big deal. You can just go to the website and download TikTok. Takes 5 minutes.

Alternative app stores (there are many) let you update, especially on Android. Apple is also opening its ecosystem to third-party downloads.

Finally, some Android apps - e.g. WeChat - now update themselves. So you don't need Google Play to update TikTok.

Most people are not smart enough to figure this out...

Apple's app store is totally closed. The situation is different on Android, but even there the extra step of having to install an additional application is more than some people know how to do. Chinese smartphone vendors should not allow the US to be able to block the sale of applications in 3rd party countries. Period. They should just make their own store.

US-based employers announced 77.77K job cuts in February of 2023, the most for the month of February since 2009 and compared to 102.943K in January which was the highest reading since September of 2020. Job cuts occurred in all 30 industries, led by technology companies (21,387) and the health care/products space (9,749). So far this year, employers announced plans to cut 180,713 jobs, up 427% from the 34,309 cuts announced in the first two months of 2022 and the highest January-February total since 2009. The tech sector has announced 35% of all job cuts in 2023. “Certainly, employers are paying attention to rate increase plans from the Fed. Many have been planning for a downturn for months, cutting costs elsewhere. If things continue to cool, layoffs are typically the last piece in company cost-cutting strategies,” said Andrew Challenger, Senior Vice President of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.

Isn't jailbreaking iPhones a pretty well known practice? That should allow you to download outside of the Apple store.
