@Strangelove the numbers don't match the 8.5% CPI, maybe the statistician is outsource from India using the Vedic method or the American are just BAD in Math, either way It's a Beautiful sight to Behold. ;)
Each item is given different weight. For example, one category can be increased by 50% but the overall CPI number is increased only by 5%.

In any case, CPI is fake government data. Real inflation is at double-digits already, imo at >20%

US inflation already beyond 20% with 1990 measure. They're just fudging it to, I want to say, unprecedented levels. Replacing usual goods with totally different alternatives or significantly lower cost and lower quality grades. Basically instead of taking benchmark or average cost of one type of steak, they are one step away from using the cheapest available dog food that's "made from real beef". There! you see same low low inflation they tell the middle class and the poor. I suppose this is why the US has been removing tariffs on Chinese goods for years now. China must hold onto manufacturing and even lower tier consumer goods. Most money is made in servicing the 99%. The Ferraris and Land Rovers of the world always end up getting owned by the Fiats and Tatas of the world.
