100mm for IFV is not a bad choice.

25mm/30mm cannon doesn't provide much for HE

Well a 30mm with AP rounds will cause damage to running system (i.e. wheels and tracks) and the optics from the front and side arc. From the side and rear you have a chance of hitting the ammo rack and taking out the engine.

If you have a light vehicle you can maneuver around the target into advantageous positions and hit turret rings, exposed systems, side, and rear armor. This is generally enough to do in most older soviet armor, AMX-30, Leopard I and defiantly APC’s and soft targets.

Blech. Is this for African countries?
I mean I know there are similar upgrade packages for the US M-60.
But there is so much difference between this generation and the one after it that relying on something a tank like this is sheer folly. The fire control system is antiquated and it takes way too long to identify and hit a target. Heck, even the generation after this one is obsolete.

It would seem that rather having to design an entirely new turret for the tank, the designers simply decided to bolt on additional composite armor to the turret face. Case in point being that the cupola of the tank remains the original Type 59/T-54 design.
From a cost saving and ease of maintenance pov it makes sense, rather than having the composite armor built in to the turret face sandwiched as layers, the company decided to simply just bolt them on with having a basic steel turret as the foundation. Which while is a less sturdy design than the former certainly cost less to build and maintain.
