All About the Chinese Su-33

An aircraft that is worth $50 million a piece. More than Twice of the Indian MKI, which itself is a formidable aircraft. 2 Su-33's are due to be delivered during 2007-2008. Not a long time from now. These aircraft are stated to be far superior than the current flanker-d's that the Russians are operating.
So, what would you expect to be on them? There stats? and would they have an edge over the F/A-18 superhornets and other aircraft like such in the region? And how will it effect the balance of power?

I think the Chinese are not really interested in the aircraft itself, but more of the technology behind it, such as the canards and modifications to the wing. I expect the two aircraft to be flown around at first then teared apart and put back together again for study.

Generally, I agree with PointBlank. But I'd like to point out that the $50 million a piece (where did you get this price? is the source reliable?) is not twice of the MKI. the MKI is reported to be $45 millions which is one and a half price of the Chinese MKK which costs around $30 millions.

Mid to late 2007 is when the Su-33 should arrive from Russia and delivered to China. PLAAF aren't really keen on the actually acquiring a bulk of them just some for evaluation, research and examination. Though Russia won't take this to kindly on just purchasing a couple, they want China to purchase more in order for the money to keep rolling to Russia. The Su-33 carrier technology and airframe would be either incorporated into the J-11 future modified airframes or the J-10B fighter trainer or possibly twin engine J-10 fighter.

Back in Nov. 06 there were some reports on chinese plans to buy close to 50 Su-22 worth $2,5B and would probably buy 2 test aircraft for $100M.
That's were the $50M / aircraft come from, I think.

I'm sorry for this irrelevant post but was your last post a typing error or are you serious Su-22. Are you sure you aren't talking about the Su-33 which China potentially will buy 50 of them worth $2.5 billion but acquiring 2 Su-33 for $100 million initially for testing and evaluation.

 You're right of course, and the posted article is about the -33s. I'm not shure the russians are that good merchants as to be able to sell China -22s for $50M a piece. :D

Well, I think they may use Su-33s for a time, but only until they can get a carrier-borne version of J-11 or J-10.

As for the price, they are carrier-borne fighters. That must play some part in the costs. Plus, they'll probably come with weapons and equipment.

in the military form. However, the one Chinese will have will have these features according to PLAN's requirements. 1. AESA. 2. TVC engine. 3. Will be able to use both PL-12 and R-77. I am not sure if it will have stealth feature though.

One more thing, the prive of MKK is around 44 milion. But MKI is much more expensive. It cost 48 million for the Indians to build, but don't foget the Lience price. Which the Indians spend almost 2.5 bilion $ to purchase the lience of 180 MKIs. So each MKI sum up with lience price will be around 60 million $.

what AESA radar? Russians don't have any AESA radar at current time. TVC engine? possibly, not confirmed. PL-12 and R-77? Not likely. It might have RAM paint, but that's all the stealth feature it will have.

MKK is not 44 million. It's 35 to 38 million. Actually, the final batch of mkk2 cost almost 40 million, but that's a matter of Russians ripping off China.
