Btw Qatar is getting its own LPD from Italy

The same design as the one supplied to Algeria

Qatar also got 2A7+ from Germany and the LPD will carry 15 of these tanks

Looks like a expeditionary unit in the making

So Qatar, Algeria, Egypt and Turkey will operate LPD/LHD

None of the mentioned have a history or track record of invading anyone in recent times

Inndeed, and most if not all of these nations only really face threats across their land borders, which makes me wonder what specific threat are they hoping to counter? Or are they looking to participate in more international operations? LHDs and Marine Infantry are often deployed on peacekeeping missions and disaster relief, in which case I would speculate these assets are being acquired for reasons of national prestige, to be seen as 'players' on the world stage.

Either that or they're all planning a massive attack on Israel... no, probably not.

Apart from Turkey the rest would just be buying these for showing the flag

Let's be honest none of them could actully utilise these in times of war would become bit of a joke if they did

So next thing is flag showing and that has effect on international relations and trade

They want to be noticed and seen as "strong " country's in light of recent events

In conjunction with other nations in the area who have concerns with Iran, it is is the only nation that comes remotely to mind.

Interesting video for a couple of reasons, first the SU-33s are operating side by side with the new Mig-29Ks, not replacing them as was stated a few years ago when the order was announced on the back of the Indian navy's order. This mixed air group is actually what was originally intended when the carrier first put sea back in 1989. As the Sukois have reported ly received upgrades to their avionics recently one would hope they will be retained in service alongside the Migs for a few years yet, so the Russian Navy can gain the experience and see the benefits of operating two different but complementary aircraft at sea. Between the two types the Russian Navy will now have enough airframes to field a full complement of aircraft for her air group at last, the limited production runs of both being insufficient to do so (as well as providing for training airframes, aircraft in maintenance and attrition replacements).

Secondly it was interesting to see the battle group sailing in Battle formation (for the cameras to be fair), with the 'Battlecruiser' in the van, two DDGs in flanking positions and the remaining ships in trail.
